I made this table runner and now my daughter wants me to make her one. And do you think I can find my instructions for it??? The focal blocks are cut at 8 1/2" , but I can't remember what size the half squares are cut out. I cut as a square and then cut in half. Have any of you made this design and have the measurements? PLEASE. Elaine

love the table runner, sorry I don't have that pattern, hope you figure it out

I'm thinking that it's 8-7/8 inch.

When you piece the triangles to the squares, I think there will be a bit of a dog ear from the triangle.

It might be helpful to mark the corner points for lining up the pieces.

The formula for cutting setting triangles is:
Finished Block size x 1.414
Round to nearest 1/8”
Add 1-1/4”
Cut out and quarter the block

If your finished square is 8", 8x1.414 = 11.312 rounded to nearest 1/8 would be 11.375, plus 1.250 = 12.625 (12-5/8). Cut corner to corner and you have 4 side setting blocks and the outside edge is not on the bias.

This is the right one - cut four triangles from this square - then the long edge will be on the straight of grain instead of a bias edge.

Here's a wonderful chart. I hope this helps.
