HELP !! Need MATH help with this pattern
1 Attachment(s)
I am doing charity quilts for foster kids when they go to summer camp next year. A friend loaned me this pattern. I love it but I don't understand why it seems to be more complicated as drawn. I want to avoid making all those quarter triangles. The center in the block diagram is 4.5" square cut. I want to attach half square triangles on the four sides instead and then have the pieces of the dark turquoise square and green/turquoise half square triangle as sashing and the white square as a cornerstone. I have already pulled enough fabric to make this quilt. I am ready to start cutting but I just can't figure out the math. Once I know the dimension of either the white or dark turquoise size is, the rest should just fall into place. Am I correct??? THANKS !!!

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're asking for. Maybe because it's late (for me) - I've been going since 4:30 am...
You've got a 9-patch w/ blocks all the same size - 4 1/2" |
If you give me a few minutes I can do it in EQ7 for you...

Here you go - these are PDFs. You will have to mirror the sashing so the green triangles end up in the right place. The lighter blue plain squares should be 6 1/8" unfinished. Please make test blocks and sashing before cutting everything just to make sure it's right.
Hope this helps! |
Quarter square triangles really are fairly easy to work with -
and I think you would be a lot happier with how the block lays after it's sewn if you use them where appropriate. |
I agree. Quarter square triangles would make it look better & lay better and would be generally easier. Just my humble opinion. . . .

Quarter Square Triangles are pretty easy if you cut them bigger and trim after sewing and pressing.
Here's my favorite method. http://thecraftyquilter.com/2012/02/...ngle-tutorial/ |
