I purchased a kit from quiltmaker magazine called starbear and friends you can see it here
http://www.shopquiltersvillage.com/p...RIENDS-KIT.htm

Well I have a problem I get this kit and don't have a pattern. I have called the help number and was told they would get me a new kit with the pattern I don't have either yet and that was two weeks ago. Well I show it to a friend and she says I remember that pattern it was in this magazine years ago. Does anyone out there possibly have this magazine from years ago?

Thanks!!!!!!

dakotamaid 02-08-2010 07:19 AM

I have lots but do you have an idea how long ago?

watterstide 02-08-2010 07:30 AM

quiltmaker magazine should be able to tell you what issue it was in? i have a collection of that mag also..but really need the issue number or month/year to look

littlehud 02-08-2010 08:12 AM

That is a cute quilt. I'm no help with the pattern though.

BellaBoo 02-08-2010 08:38 AM

I haven't had good customer service from Quiltmaker in the past. Keep contacting them until you get your pattern.

Nope, gone. I never gave away the dog that ate my homework!

shaverg 02-08-2010 11:27 AM

Missi, I have all of them since 1984, do you have any idea about when it was in the magazine. I will look, but it will definitely take some time. If it was in the magazine I have it.

rnjoy 02-08-2010 11:28 AM

Another request for patterns...or a title of a book that contains patterns for using neckties. Have asked in the past but so far no responses. Not too long ago there was a tutorial on how to clean and cut the ties but no pattern. Don't know the name of the book that used to be available but think it was from a few years ago. Thanks for any help any one can give me. 8-)

beachlady 02-08-2010 04:55 PM

Cute quilt - hope someone can help you.

Shiloh 02-08-2010 05:02 PM

Hi,
The book is "Daddy's Ties" by Shirley Botsford. Gerry

rnjoy 02-08-2010 05:04 PM

Thanks do you know about any of the patterns that the neckties are used to make a quilt? Do you know if the book is still available?

Dragonfly Nana 02-08-2010 05:30 PM

Shaverg,
I can tell you it was before 2008. Not much help but what I could offer.
since 1984....wow.

shaverg 02-08-2010 05:35 PM

I actually do have the magazine it is Early Fall 1989.

If you google the book title, you will see that it is available at Amazon, Overstock.com and others. Might be on eBay. I have had the book for 11 years and haven't made a quilt from it yet. My dad died then and I have all of his ties and it is something I'm going to do "when I retire" along with hundreds of other things :). Now, all I need to do is retire!

I think it might have been an issue that says baby quilts or hints about baby quilts on the cover.

at this link I found a beautiful neck tie quilt, right here on our board.

rnjoy 02-08-2010 07:28 PM

Thanks I will check it out. If anyone has any other ideas I would appreciate any info you can share. I know you can do a dresden or fan but not sure what other quilts.. Oh I know you can do the bowtie too but these aren't what I am looking for. Would like some thing a little more contemporary perhaps. Thanks for the info though.

I have "Quilts from Neckties by Sharon Newman, Pub. 1995, Paperback (magazine size) book. General Directions for cleaning the ties to completion of one or all 11 patterns. Templates (scan and print) with clearly written instructions and clear diagrams :D

I found two on Amazon and one on Barnes/Noble the cheapest was $79.00; one on e-bay was $185.19 ... for pete's sake ...WOW!!

Oh My Word! I bought mine at a yard sale for 50-cents  The original sticker is on my book $8.95. Now I'm almost sorry I mentioned the book, if you ever see it grab it!!!

Maybe your local library has this book, it would definitely be worth checking into.

Here are a couple more book names but I believe some of these are also out-of-print: http://www.amazon.com/Necktie-Sample...1031194&sr=1-1

I did, however, find an interesting site "Artful Ties", lots of really neat ideas for using old ties including evening gowns!

I will look in my magazines, I know I saw one that was done, abstract, I believe. It's a vague memory but I'll continue to look for you.

I would be on the phone with them. That is NOT a cheap kit. If the person behind the phone can not help you be kind to them and tell them then put someone on the phone who CAN help you. If you only spent $5 I still think you have a right to fair service and hope you get this in the mail asap. Frustrating. That said what a darling quilt! Its different from the rest, no wonder it caught your eye.

Hi Missi, I do have the 1989 issue of Quiltmaker that you need. How do I get it to you? I don't know a lot about computers but maybe my daughter can help me . Please get back to me if you know how to do this. Thanks, Howard ( a gal not a guy)

shaverg 02-09-2010 06:27 AM

Howard, I wonder if she found it, I sent her a message to, saying I also found the pattern no response. Maybe she got it from Quiltmaker after all. I glad to see I am not the only one that keeps the old Quiltmakers. I love the magazine.

I have a lot of older mags, I will look. It does look very familiar.

POosterman 02-09-2010 07:03 AM

This is an Irish chain, and I do have instructions.

frecklestweety 02-09-2010 11:52 AM

i have quiltmaker mag from some time ago. what year are you looking for. let me know and I will check and see what issues I have.

sunshinegal 02-09-2010 12:25 PM

I also have a magazine with the pattern Starbear & Friends, but it is in a more recent magazine than 1989. - it is Spring 2001, a Special Issue from Quiltmaker's All-Time Favorites.

Missi 02-09-2010 01:12 PM

I think the pattern has been located and is heading my way - I can't say thank you enough to everyone for looking.

Elisabrat I agree with you completely. I was ready to return the kit if I didn't find the directions here. I will never order a kit again from Quiltmaker.

shaverg 02-09-2010 01:24 PM

Missi, so glad you can now make the quilt. It is so cute. I will have to consider it next time I need a baby quilt.

I checked on quiltshoppersvillage listed above and looked under patterns. and the bear nap was listed in stock for $5.00 hope this is a help. But I would keep bugging them for the pattern. Good Luck Kathy

Pins n' Ndls 02-09-2010 03:47 PM

Let me know if you don't receive the pattern. My offer still holds.

sewcrafty 02-10-2010 04:04 AM

This is actually a Double Irish Chain Quilt. You can find a free pattern on line (google) or look in most quilt books to find a pattern. It's basically broken down into 3 rows the 1st & third look like its scrappy mid and dark tones with the lighter ones in the middle.

Hope this helps.

frecklestweety 02-10-2010 05:45 AM

i checkedmy issues and I don't have the pattern. so sorry/

saf45 02-10-2010 06:04 AM
