I am not sure who made this quilt on the board here, but I just can't stop wanting one. I am to new of a quilter to know how to get the blocks for the edges etc... does anyone know who made this beauty or can anyone help me? I have made an on point quilt with a pattern (but the edge blocks were all plain fabric ...
Sorry.. I know it is a D9P...I have made several of them, just not on point like this beauty is...so I am not sure how to do the outer ones... |
That is a disappearing nine patch (D9P) with sashings and cornerstones. Beautiful quilt. Don't know who made it. Edges look like 1/2 D9P.

I don't know how they made it but if all else fails, you could make the entire block on the edges then trim even making sure you leave your 1/4" seam allowance.

I have made a similar one (because I saw THAT one). The easiest way to do it is to cut the blocks in half diagonally. You will lose some of your points in the process to the seam allowance, but if you are using busy fabrics, you really don't notice it at all. Make the sashing strips whole and cut off the extra.
When I first did mine, I used extra whole blocks with the intention of cutting them down after to allow for the seam allowance so I didn't lose my points. I got distracted when squaring it up at the end and cut a row too soon in both length and width. What a pain ripping out and resewing. I put it away for a long time because it depressed me so! I ended up cutting the blocks in half diagonally at the end. I would have finished it a year sooner if I had just done that in the first place! Here's mine...I love it, it's one of my favorites! I too fell in love with and was inspired by this quilt! I made one for my grandson a couple years ago, his favorite color......black. It is the D9P block set on point with sashing stips and cornerstones added. The setting triangles are just the D9P block cut on the diagonal. I had no problem 'losing points' just took my time. It came out great and my grandson loves it!! I will be making another one with the left over B/w fabrics for my daughter....only using a bright purple in place of the red.
Good luck with yours!! |
