I am very new to making a quilt and I was wondering if someone could tell me how many yards of Fabric I would need to make a single bed Quilt and also a pillow case? I am going to be using Iron on Transfers to decorate it. I just need some advice to get started on it
Thanx so much for anyones help.

The answer depends on what pattern you are planning to make. I would suggest that you find a pattern book that you like and go from teh directions in there for your first large quilt. Check the library, they usually have a ton of quilt books. Good luck!

And if you know what you want to make, post it here and people will probably be better able to help. Also, if you search atthe top of the page for "bed sizes" there are resources to figure out how big your quilt should be to cover a twin size bed.

maybe one of these sites will help:

if you are just doing iron on transfers, you could either piece the top with a simple block, then do the transfer. You could just cut squares the size you need to balance the size of the prints, and to fancy it up a bit, you could do sashing between the blocks, or to simplify - just sew one block next to another.

Or make it all one piece of fabric, and do your prints. They have fabric for backings that is 108" wide.

And here is a link to making pillow cases:

Good luck! Have a great day! Be sure to show us pics when you get it done!
