Any progress on getting the red out?

The red came from the lining?

Kara 06-20-2010 03:30 AM

The red did come from the lining.

It's strange though... I prewashed (and dried) all fabrics. Even tested the red flannel with a piece of muslin to make sure the muslin was going to come out white. And the red settled in the horse fabric but NOT the gray.

I want to thank all of you for your suggestions. The pink is lighter but not gone. We've tried Fels Naptha, white vinegar, oxy clean, clorox 2, alcohol, you name it, we've tried it... except the Synthrapol, I'm going to look for it today.

Unfortunately, we'll be making another jacket :(
But making this one should be easier since she's already done it once.
Off to Jo-Ann's either this afternoon or tomorrow. We're lining this one in WHITE!

Sorry that the red/pink didn't come out.

You could also use a light gray for the lining - might not look grubby as quickly as white. And if it wasn't color fast, it wouldn't be a disaster.

Maybe she can use this one for chores and gardening (if those are activities that she does) and not worry about it getting dirty.

Was there any more shrinkage with all that you did to it?

Good Idea, at least we know the white shouldn't fade lol. Good Luck. I'm sorry it had to come to making another one, but just prewashing a fabric doesn't always get us off the hook. I'm not sure how well it works but currently when I get a new fabric that I plan to use in a quilt I have started washing it with retayne. I haven't used some of this fabric yet, but it has been prewashed with retayne, and I also plan to use a color catcher sheet. Hopefully I won't have the same problem that I've had in the past or that you just went through. Gerbie
