I'm getting ready to sew my blocks to each other to make the quilt top. I am so nervous. Not sure how I'm going to manage to sew the rows and columns together.

Any suggestions? Also, once I get it all together how do I know that it is even on all sides?

Dumb questions, I know!

Thanks,
Michelle

That is not a dumb question. I always worry about my rows coming out even and lining up. I sew mine starting in the middle going out then sew the other side from the middle out. I am one of those quilters whose lines never seem to line up so maybe I am not the best to answer your question. LOL!

I pin my blocks to make sure all the points match and then use a square ruler to fudge the corners if needed. I'm not a perfectionist by any means and I feel done is better than perfect! After a while, it all begins to come to you naturally.

I starch, iron and trim all my blocks to the correct size. Then I lay all my blocks out the way I want them. Then chain sew collum 2 to collum 1, 3 to 2 ... and so on. All the blocks will be attached together. Then sew row 1 to 2, 2 to 3, till done. When all the blocks are sewn, iron the top. If you want to attach a border, measure both sides and middle, take the average, cut the border that length and attach to the sides. Then measure the ends and across the middle, average and cut the border for the ends and attach.

With careful measuring and sewing, the top should be nice and square.

Press the blocks before you start and check to make sure they are square (or whatever they are supposed to be) and pin, pin, pin. I'm picky and like things to match up.
