Just finished this quilt and the border fabric I bought just does not work. Not sure if I should just leave it alone or go shopping. It is mostly batik.

Charlee 02-13-2011 11:38 AM

I don't have advice for you, but I WANT IT!!

LoriEl 02-13-2011 11:40 AM

How fun and colorful. I love it! It kind of has a border with the sashing so unless you want it bigger-why spend the money? It looks great as is.

Jim 02-13-2011 11:41 AM

I would border it with the blue batik used for the sky in each block then bind it in the darker blue...or even perhaps do a piano key border using all the colors used inhte quilt...you did a great job BTW...I love the wonky lighthouses

Jo M 02-13-2011 11:42 AM

I usually like a border, but this is one that doesn't need it. I'd leave it just like it is. It's really cute!

pamesue 02-13-2011 11:43 AM

border with light blue background and darker blue binding...lov it

gellybean402 02-13-2011 11:43 AM

What a fun quilt! I agree if you don't need it bigger then why bother! If you do need it bigger, pick a color from the lighthouses. Thanks for sharing!

I agree. The only question is size. Fun quilt!

laureneberhard 02-13-2011 11:45 AM

I'd leave it as is...

Ardelle Coult 02-13-2011 11:55 AM

I'll lay it out with the light blue as a border and the dark blue as the binding and see how it looks. Thanks for the input.

The pattern is from With Needle and Thread. She has some really cute patterns.

clem55 02-13-2011 11:57 AM

cute!

belmer 02-13-2011 11:57 AM

I like it just the way it is.... Save your money for your next project!

What a lovely quilt! Do you have the fabrics you used for the appliques? If so, you could use them to make a pieced border -- it's really quite easy & you'd be pulling in the colors from everywhere! Good luck & enjoy it!

Julie in NM 02-13-2011 12:00 PM

I'd do a scrappy BINDING with left over fab from blocks. That will jazz it up

Ardelle Coult 02-13-2011 12:06 PM

I'll go through my scraps and see if I still have any of the fabric from the appliques. That may look good. Thanks!

lovingmama 02-13-2011 12:30 PM

I wouldn't put a border around it, it's beautiful the way how it is.

AnnieH 02-13-2011 12:34 PM

Fabulous. Leave it alone, it's the best.

mmonohon 02-13-2011 12:35 PM

It is wonderful. I would add a border but that's just me.

wolfkitty 02-13-2011 12:36 PM

It doesn't need a border unless you need to make it bigger. It's beautiful!

EIQuilter 02-13-2011 12:49 PM

It looks like you have your answer, but I'll throw in my two cents worth anyway! I really like the idea of a scrappy border with the various colors used in the lighthouses, etc. I'd probably bind it in the darker blue if I did that. I hope you'll share another picture when you're finished - this is a really cute quilt.

the first thought that came to my mind was the piano key border also - using all the colors in the quilt. WOW, you did a fantastic job! Love it! :)

Exactly my thoughts, or if not enough fabric, a striped binding cut on the bias would look funky too.

rusty quilter 02-13-2011 12:54 PM

First of all--I WANT THIS QUILT! How cute! Secondly, if you need to make it bigger, by all means border it. However, the truth is, it looks great just as it is

rusty quilter 02-13-2011 12:55 PM

Sorry hit enter twice!

Flying_V_Goddess 02-13-2011 12:55 PM

It already kinda has its own border...its just the same color and width as the sashing. I'd leave it. It looks fantastic!

jlong 02-13-2011 12:56 PM

I agree, it is perfect and the colors are fun.

dixiebelle162002 02-13-2011 01:14 PM

I love the quilt! With or without an additional border it's beautiful. I liked the suggestion of the piano key border with all the different colors of the fabrics that you had you used it the quilt.

ncsewer 02-13-2011 01:31 PM

I just love this it's so cute!

okiepastor 02-13-2011 01:33 PM

I agree a scrappy border would look great, though it does not really need a border! Depends on size/

Linda B 02-13-2011 01:36 PM

I think it is great the way it is. Another border might make it look 'out of balance' and just doesn't seem to be needed, in my humble opinion!

Maggie_1963 02-13-2011 01:42 PM

cuuuuuutttteee!!!! I like it just they way it is! No border, just bind!

dunster 02-13-2011 02:07 PM

I love your quilt! So whimsical... As others said, if the size is okay then leave it as-is.

asmmauer 02-13-2011 02:35 PM

Your quilt is so cute. Try laying a strip of your orange next to it and see what you think .Or like others have suggested a pieced border with your left over scraps would be great what ever you decide this is a wonderful quilt with lots of personality.

the casual quilter 02-13-2011 02:49 PM

I like it as it is.

Awesome quilt! I agree, it's fine as is, but if you need to make it larger, I think a piano key border would look great. I'll attach a picture of a quilt I did with similar colors to give you an idea of how it looks.

costumegirl 02-13-2011 03:46 PM

These quilts are so pretty and bright!!! Lots of fun!! Very cute!!

Tinabodina 02-13-2011 03:50 PM

It is cute just like it is; so if you want it bigger, put a boarder on.

Tinabodina 02-13-2011 03:50 PM

How cute it that!!!!

Raggiemom 02-13-2011 03:53 PM

I don't think it needs a border. It's beautiful as is.

cathylynn 02-13-2011 04:34 PM

like it as it is. love the lighthouses.
