I have the same problem with a White brand sewing machine. The Cams are built in mine but they won't do the design they are supposed to.

The only thing I can tell you is if you have the cams in,[on my 603] I have to move the zig-zag lever over and move the stitch regulater up into the FINE area. Have you done that? Try and see if that works. You must have the ZZ foot on too. You have to try different settings in the[zig-zag and fine areas].

Along with barny's suggestions, let me add one more. Does your machine currently zigzag all the way across on its widest setting? If not, you may need to oil what's called (I think) the bellows. If you open the door on the left and look beside the needlebar, you'll see a round thing that goes in and out when the needlebar moves from side to side. It may need oiling. If it doesn't move freely, it will prevent the needlebar from stitching the pattern.

Google instruction for that model. I was having problems with cam & didn't have it set right. Oiling the thing the previous post suggested also works. Be careful you could break needles if not set right. I have several machines with cams.
