I just finished going through some boxes of material that was given to me,I found dresden pieces put together. All hand sewn. They are small and have raw edges. There is enough for about 3 quilts. All raw edges.Would it be right to applique them to a sq.?Some have bigger holes in center but enough of the same size for a quilt. The smaller size hole is enough for 2 quilts I would appreciate any help in this matter.I would post a picture but I don' know how.

Yes, they are usually appliqued to a plain block, can be done by machine or needle turn.

It also looks nice with blanket stitch. Once the motifs are appliqued to the background, a center circle is appliqued to cover.

thank you so much,I need to know if I have to turn the edges or can I just applique it raw

I'm not sure if the raw edges will hold up thru regular use and washings.I turn mine and applique with embroidery thread. That's the way my mom did it and I love to do the embridery while I watch t v.FayZ

You can do either. Traditionally, they're turned edges, but you can do raw edge.
