I have a DesignerI Viking Machine and I just love everything about it BUT I recently moved and somewhere along the way my donguel for my Custominzing program got lost, I have the registration number, my paid receipt when & where I bought it, but everyone I have contacted even the comany tells me I have to buy another Customizing program and thats over $500 and I don't think I should have to but everything I just want to buy the darn donguel. There are so many things that I have on my computer that I cannot use because I don't have that darn thing.
Any suggestions from anyone would greatly be appreciated.
Have a great day.

don't have a clue what you're talking about but maybe you could check ebay or craig's list. just a thought.

I don't know if this will help, but I found this on google:

what on earth is a dongle?

I had to Google it.
This is what I got....
A dongle is a piece of hardware that attaches to a computer in order to make a piece of secured software run

I still am confused as to what it actually does, other than make the software run. I dunno...I'm kinda computer illiterate when it comes to some things.

I was doing a search to see how much these dongle things cost and they are only about $40 for a bluetooth Belkin Dongle. I have no clue as to what kind you are looking for or anything.
Does this Dongle thing make something work wireless or something? That's all I am seeing that it does and I'm still confused.

I reread the posts again and thought maybe I was misspelling it, but can't find anything for DONGUEL, only Dongel. <shrug>

Quick explanation: the dongle that comes with Viking (and Pfaff) software acts as a key to unlock and use the software each time the software is run - the software will not run without the dongle attached to the computer. If a dongle breaks, it has to be turned in to the Viking dealer before a new one will be sent from Viking to replace it; according to my dealer, a lost dongle will have to be replaced through the purchase of new software. Breaking or loosing a dongle is a serious problem.

The dongle issue is the # 1 reason I will not purchase Viking software; the fact that you have to pay a yearly fee for support is reason #2. When I bought my used D1, I didn't get any software (not even Disk Manager, which is used to transfer designs to the disks for the machine) so I researched software options. My D1 uses floppy disks, so I can use Embird for 1/5 the price of the Viking software; no dongle, free support and an all-around great program. Embrid will not work with the D1 USB machines, tho.

Thanks so much for your reply. Can you tell what the Embird is and how do I get it. I have almost all the software that I can get with the DI but I need this dongel to be able to get everything I have over to disc manager and then I can transfer to a floppy disc.

I am so preturbed about this thing that I guess I misspelled it, it is dongel. Thanks for your info.

The PSW1 software doesn't have a dongel but it DOES have the card writer that HAS to be on the computer AND turned on to use the PSW software.

What happens now that new computers no longer have serial ports - which is what this "ancient" piece of hardware needs...

This is why I won't buy another Electric Quilt program... I did NOT know when I bought it (My first version is EQ6) that EQ6 only allows FOUR installations and then tough luck... you either don't use the software at all OR you can pay AGAIN for software that you already bought once in order to 'GET' another installation...
frankly, I think that stinks
especially since I bought the software online from Joanne's and it did NOT say anywhere that there was only four installations...

so, once you buy this piece of software I guess you better not have a comptuer crash, or get a new operating system or buy a new computer or two....

Why do I have to pay twice because "Jane Doe" copied the program before I even heard of it?????? Why am I penalized and treated like a criminal????
What's even weirder is people seem to think that kind of treatment is fine and wonderful

duh

And yes, I do use old software - I have a program that I LOVE which is no longer available and I dread the day that it won't load on a new computer :x
