I'm saving this thread! Great info and ideas! I've wanted to do a hexie project for a while and I think I'll do one in 2014.

I love hexi quilts. I will never make one. I hate hand sewing. I will just admire all of your work. Have you seen Geta Grama's work. SHe does some awesome things with hexi's. http://cadouri-din-inima.blogspot.com/.

I am a new hexie addict. I started on vacation 2 weeks ago and now I can't stop! They are so quick for a lunch hour, totally portable and great for a break from the machine. I am beginning with a small table mat and really want to do a grandmothers flower garden hand made, hand quilted. I am making 1.5" hexies using paper templates. I can now add 'Hexie Addict' to 'Fabriholic'. Count me in!

I have an 1800 mile round trip coming up & would like something to do other than looking at my quilting magazines I've been saving (not peeking in them at all) & I keep thinking of Hexi's but I know nothing about EPP's and thus have no idea where to start or what to do. I wish I had more notice of my sons wedding than a month to prepare myself to learn how to do hexi's. So I'll have to settle for my magazines and a couple of Amish Quilt books on my Kindle. But someday "I WILL learn how to do Hexi's", just had to throw this in here...I am in awe of you who do the Hexi's. :eek:

Thank you mimiknoxtaylor........I am a member of BOM from Craftsy so maybe I can learn real quick how to do Hexi's for my 1800 mile road trip, I'll just watch the video and maybe get the jist of it & take a lot of scraps with me! Thank you so very much.

Hello Jeri, There is a wonderful Australian blog titled Sue Daley Designs with some great tutorials. Sue is an EPP specialist/teacher/designer and well known on the Australian scene. She has exhibited at Huston. I return to her blog again and again. There are however lots and lots of other very good tutorials out there and I think there must be as many different ways to do them as there are quilters who love doing them. Good luck.

I am currently hand piecing my 8th bed sized GFG quilt. They are all hand quilted. I am getting a little tired of all of those hexies but do intend on finishing number 8. I cut my own papers from the little postcards found in the quilting magazines. The papers are 1 1/4 inch. The fabrics are all 1930 reproductions. Most of the hexie basting is done while I watch TV; I then whip stitch the hexies together to make flower designs. I prefer hand quilting when we are on trips with our RV as I can sit at the table and quilt away. The table supports the weight of the quilt. I would love to post pix of some of my completed GFG but do not know how. My avatar, however, is a pix of of one of my "girls."

I haven't quilted this project yet. The plan is to quilt the entire piece then trim backing and batting to match the front. I will whipstitch hexies to the front with right sides together along the outside edge then whipstitch these to the back. I did this on a small wall quilt and it worked fine. I'll have to find that little thing and take a picture to show what it looks like. It is too early and I need to get ready for work so sounds like I have an afternoon task when I get home.
