Houston International Quilt Show
What a fun two days at the Houston International Quilt Show. Spent Thursday with two dear friends viewing the quilts and visiting the vendors looking for new quilting techniques/ideas.
I made a list of vendors I knew I needed things from. One was Fil Tec. They are a US company that makes quilting thread. I love their Glide thread, it is 30 weight polyester. I use it in the bobbin as well as the top thread. It sews beautifully! For $8 no tax, I purchased spools of various colors 5,500 yards. I have used pricier thread in the past but now use this thread exclusively. I really love knowing that my purchase of thread is keeping workers working in the USA.
I also went to the Handi Quilter booth. My friend just purchased a Handi Quilter Sweet 16 at the quilt show. I love this machine. They were offering a quilt show price of $5,100 that included the table and stitch regulator. Am hoping to purchase a late model gently used machine from someone who purchased up to a different quilting system. Will be aggressive in hunting for a used model.
Friday my friend and I worked our quilt guild booth from 10:00 to noon demonstrating the technique of hand quilting. Met so many nice ladies who sat watching us and then tried their hand at hand quilting. Two ladies from Barcelona, Spain were so interested and even with the communication barrier, after about 30 minutes, both were hand quilting beautifully!
What a fun time at the quilt show. My poor feet and credit card are feeling the effects. Can't wait till next year!!!!
