I was just reading on the forum about how to end your stitching when machine quilting. I want to try machine quilting, have always been a hand quilter, the advice was to "stitch in place." How do you do that? Drop the feed dogs or what?

I just kinda hold unto the fabric in the back of the needle to prevent it from going forward. Just for a couple of stitches. It locks the end of your stitching line just like a knot. Practice on a scrap, it isn't hard! :D

My Bernina has a button that makes the machine take a few stitches without moving.

Set stitch length to 0 (zero) and take a couple of stitches.

My machine is a Pfaff it has what is called a tie off stitch, but I usually just hold the fabric too and that seems quicker than waiting for the machine to do its thing.
