I really need to get a walking foot for my el-cheap-o Brother machine. But, I don't know if it is a long or short shank. I rather think it is a short shank but, how can I tell?

I bought one for my el cheapo Brother and it would not work. The screw that was on the machine was not long enough, the needle would fall out so I returned it got another one (different model) with a longer screw in the packet no probs now.
My Brother is Model 2125 LS (Blue on Front) The Brother walking foot is a 5mm with the Needle screw. The one I bought first time was 7mm with no needle screw.

I too, have a cheapo Brother. Found out which walking foot to get by checking out Brother's website. You might check ebay for a bargain priced foot. That's where I found mine for less than half the price of the LQS.

Do they have a Brother site with on line manual? You might try asking a local dealer. These pics might help.Overstock,Amazon & Ebay sells feet.

Most machines are short shank. If you buy a short shank walking foot with the longer screw you should be fine. I have a cheap Wal-mart Brother which was given to me to use with the 4-H kids and that's what I bought and it fits fine.
Generic walking feet will not fit Berninas or Husqvarna Vikings. My Bernina walking foot was $135 and my Husqvarna one was $90.You should be able to get a generic walking foot for less than $20.

it's unlikely your machine is anything but a short shank. A Janome walking foot fits my Elna.

This is the machine I have. Thanks so much for the info. I'm going to see if I can find one.

Thanks for helping me. I really want to try machine quilting before I invest in a long arm. But, that is what I really want.

Its a great machine, free motion quilts well. make sure you get the 5mm one with the long screw in it. Cost me 45AUD worth every cent.
