The laws of physics in my guest bedroom, where I measure for backing, are different than those in my sewing room. That's why my measurements never add up properly.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Here's a great tutorial for figuring the yardage for quilt backing.

there are no "mistakes" in quilting, only engineering changes.

I have noticed that when measuring small shapes some people use the lines on a mat. If you look one side goes right to left 1 -- 24 opposite side right to left 24--1. They use wrong set.

Sounds nice!

Do you have any of your fabric left over from the quilt? You could make a nice border on the back!

There's a free class on Craftsy called Creative Quilt Backs. it's interesting and started me sketching out my quilt backs. I was amazed at the difference, looked good and I wasn't stressed out with it. It's worth a look.

you could cut the backing and insert a complimentary fabric color...not in the center, though - maybe a third. you could say..."yeah...i meant to do that!"

Loved the link from Peckish. Sounds like the same process I go thru (several times) before I hopefully get it right:D

Everytime I have made a pieced backing, I have messed it up! My solution? Now I only buy 108" wide backing fabric! So much easier, no stress. :)
