The difference can be easily explained. The backing, will only be doubled because there are no seams. That's why you came up so high on the calculations.

I really cheat :oops: and use the 108" wide for the backing. Buy it at Joann's with the 40% coupon ( I LOVE COUPONS) and generally get enough backing for a queen-size quilt for under $8.
