I have been searching for a quilt retreat in my area (up to 100 miles from home) and not having much luck. As I don't belong to a local guild (another story) I really don't have any local quilting buddies.
What should I expect to pay for a weekend retreat?

Quilter7x 09-10-2011 07:06 PM

I've been on many quilting retreats. The fee varies from $150 to over $500 depending on where you stay and the activities planned.

I'm going on one on Cape Cod in November. We are on our own for food. The $150 fee includes our hotel room for three nights and a small space in the common room. The $500 retreat covers all food in a very nice hotel for two nights and lots of space in the common room.

Some quilt shops put on retreats, so ask around at the quilt shops. Seems like your area would have lots of quilters. When I go to Lancaster with my parents, we get off in your town and head to Shady Maple for dinner. :)

Sunnie, I'm not that far away from you so if you come across anything let me know! I've never been to one either, and I'm not in a guild (more for time reasons than anything) but I'd love to try a retreat.

Ah, you gotta be careful about that Shady Maple place for dinner as it can be habit forming.

Julie, I will let you know. And if you find any let me know and maybe we can meet up there.

Thanks Ms Crafty Bear. I have contacted the Mercersburg Inn to see if they have space available. The guild list isn't very helpful for retreats. Now I need to start searching LQSs.

Have you asked at your local quilt shop? Many stores have put on retreats.
I do retreats with a group of friends...actually we combine 2 groups to come up with the minimum # needed which is 20...we usually have 20-24...and then there is a place about 1/2 hour from here that lets us rent their facility for the retreat....they do the cooking, we do the sewing!

patchsamkim 09-11-2011 05:22 AM

Another place to look would be at church camps-there is one about an hour from here that has quilters and scrapbookers camps...maybe there is something like that in your area.

QuiltE 09-11-2011 06:06 AM

You don't have to be a Guild member to go to retreats. Our LQS's coordinate many.

Here's a popular destination for Quilting Retreats. Some are open to anyone.

Yes it's in Canada, though near the border. It's still do-able for our Northern USA friends!

brushandthimble 09-11-2011 06:09 AM

ask at LQS, ask members of a guild, chat up crafters at a craft show, google quilt retreats for your area.
just some ideas, hope you find find one.

peaceandjoy 09-11-2011 06:20 AM

A friend and I go to one every year that we found through LQS. There are also a couple that would be within driving distance that are held at conference/retreat centers, so you might also check anything like that in your area. Unfortunately, can't make the ones here as they don't work with my work schedule.

Why not plan one with other Quilting Board members?

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind. I am not far from Lancaster County PA so there are lots of resources for a retreat. I think I will check with the local hotels and B & B's about hosting a retreat. Anyone interested?

I also Googled quilt* camp and came up with lots of hits (as many as quilt* retreat) so lots to consider now.

Not exactly nearby, but Olde City Quilts in Burlington, NJ has retreats just across the street from them at a local hotel. I've not been, but they look very cozy & nice. Might want to check them out????

there is a good chance I'll be driving from Florida to central NY next summer for a class reunion. If the timing is right, I'd love to come! Keep us posted.

I did visit their website and their "retreats" are partial day. I'm looking for a weekend (or longer) escape.

I would be interested, depending on the dates!

Please check out Bed and Breakfast in your areas, as they are now holding quilting retreats.

I found some in Northern Indiana and making a list of them and would love to have a quilting retreat Spring of 2012.

Those of you who have been to a weekend retreat...how many people are usually included?

As small as one .... I sometimes cloister myself and do my own retreat! :)

And as many as you want ... really depends on how large you want to get.

Hi Sunnie,
I host retreats for guilds, shops and groups of friends. We have hosted for groups as small as 10 and as many as 42. The smaller groups are really fun because you get to know each other better, where the larger the group the harder it is to visit with everyone AND get some quilting done too. If you are going to plan one in you area I'd recommend starting with 16-20 max.

Here's a pic of our retreat group this past weekend.
