I have a disney princess panel that I am trying to quilt and have run into a problem. Well, not necessarily a problem, but I just don't know exactly how to quilt the princesses. There are 4 princesses with long flowy dresses and am not quite sure what design to quilt on their dresses? I don't want to just do stipple, I think it needs more than that, but haven't a clue of a design that would look right. Ideas?

Do you have a picture?
For some panels I just quilt around the design, in this case the princesses to make them puff out a bit and then it depends on what surrounds them what I do.
I have a longarm to do mine, but it could be done on your sewing machine as well.

Perhaps you could embellish the details of the dresses/hair with hand or machine embroidery (satin stitch) before outline quilting.

how about quilting pleats into the dresses?

Could you hand-quilt just the princesses, accenting each one individually.

I have outlined the princesses and stippled all the outlying areas. But a couple of the dresses have an area that is maybe 4-5x6-7 inches and I just think that is too big an area to just leave without some type of quilting to tack down the batting. Can't put on embellishments because this will be a charity quilt for Riley Children's Hospital.

It is really hard to offer suggestions without a picture or a link to the panel :D:D:D

I just quilt around the design. On this one I outlined the border stripes, the angel (and all of her parts), the hills and the little barn thing. The rest are all buttoned on pieces. If I had to wash it I would quilt more in the inner areas but only as much as necessary, but the buttons are sewn through so they would probably prevent any shifting anyway.

when i made my granddaugter a disney princess quilt on the dresses i quilted straight (well-kind of straight) lines down from the waste band to the hem- making it look like lines of the dress skirt- i went around the waste band- you can enhance/embellish without adding sew on things that come off- you embellish with thread- enhance the design with out taking away from it.
