Hi everyone, I would like to know how to birth the following: a front, back, lining and batting. I am trying to work out something in my mind. I want to make a pocket type pouch with a flap. It will be for a crafter who knits, crochets, sews and hand embroidery. I want it to put a pack of needles, thimble and a few other things in it. I want to give it to her by Wednesday. Before I cut the fabric and everything else and it ended up a bust am in need of help.

Place the batting on your surface. Lay the front fabric right side up on top of the batting.
Place the backing right sides together(down) on to the top fabric.
Stitch round the edge LEAVE A TURNING GAP!!!!

If you want to you can clip back the batting to the seam allowance, but Iusually don't as I like that extra bit of bulk on the edge for the top stitching but you do at least need to clip off the corners or clip any curves before turning right sides out through the gap.

Press the edges and topstitch round ensuring you close up the gap as you sew.

I have gone a different direction. I sandwich and birth the batting, backing and top and quilt the whole. Then I sandwich, birth and quilt the add on pocket. I then sew the pocket where I want it. Of course, this was because I found out a pocket was wanted AFTER I had finished the quilt.
