I have finally decided that I do not want to quilt anymore queen size quilts on my home machine.
I want something fancier than in the ditch quilting! I want some fun!
How do I find a local long arm quilter? A profressional?
Any clue?
Any one know of one in the Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia...Wa state area?
Is there a list/guild of Prof. Longarmers?

Check your local quilt shops, quilting buddies, quilt guilds. Someone is sure to have some favorites. Some LA charge by thread usage, some by size of the quilt, by the square inch. Then if you want 'custom' that can be another expense. It does add up. My local LA is very reasonable, but another in the area for the same quilt would be almost double what mine charges. So you do have to 'shop' around.

Also another thing to consider is the turn around time. For example if I am making a 'Christmas' quilt, it would have to be to my gal in Sept/Oct. So make sure and ask lots of questions.

I also know that some where in your area there is a shop that rents longarms. A gal on another board did this, I think she was in the southern part of Seattle area. You have to take a class first, but then you would be able to do them yourself, for a fee (of course), nothing is free.

Our LQS has a file of LA quilters that they know and recommend. The one I use is a member of the guild I belong to. She's a widow and just starting her business. I like her, so I tried her work. She let me come by and see some of her quilts she'd done. She even offered to let me come and watch mine being done, but I didn't do that. She's done 2 for me now, and I'm quite pleased.

The blog is just getting going, so there aren't a lot a pictures, but enough to hopefully give you some ideas.

Check with you LQS. Mine actually has a longarm machine that you can use (for a fee). But they may know of people in the area who would do a good job. Also get references and ask your quilting friends if they've used anyone.
