How to fold 1/4yd or fat quarters?

I've been folding my fabric using a ruler and it works great for pieces that are closer to a yard. I have a group that is 1/4 yd and 1/3 yd and ice tried folding them various ways and they either seem to be too bulky or come out differently. I'm curious how others who ruler fold their fabric deal with the small sizes like a 1/4 yd and fat quarters.

Thanks for your help.

Watching for answers to this as well. I have a good system for yardage, but no so much for other pieces.

I found this posted a while ago and it works great for folding fabric 1/4yd up to 1yd.

If you're looking for some sort of consistency in terms of the size of the folded fabrics, you might try going for 9" (a quarter-yard) as your "base measurement".

Take that quarter yard, and fold it in thirds.

Have a half-yard? Fold it in half, now you're down to a 9" piece; fold that in thirds.

For a full yard, fold it in half, and in half again; now fold that in thirds.

Basically this is what we do when we're packing up fabrics to ship in the flat-rate envelopes. We want them all to turn out to be pretty much the same size when folded too... just our reasons are different than yours! :-)

I measure the size of whatever I plan to store this in/on first - and go from there.

Those odd sized pieces are challenging to store prettily and/or neatly.

Or to be able to find them again!
