I have an opportunity to buy my greatgrandmother's hand quilting frame (the full size with rollers and clamps) from a relative's estate. They're not giving it, but I'm willing to buy it. But I don't know how much to offer. I checked e-bay but only found new frames. I don't know how old it is. She married in 1902 and died in the mid-50s so it's from somewhere in that time frame. It's not fancy. I suspect greatgrandpa might have made it - which makes it even more special. Anybody have any ideas on what it might be worth?

Pam, my two cents on the subject is how can their be a price??If it is important to you then buy it for whatever they are asking. It is sad sometimes for these situations. What grandma wouldn't give their grand-daughter something like that in the first place......if it were me w/it, you could have just have it! I know several years ago a lady here was selling one that sounds simular but newer and she was asking I believe 200. Good luck and let us know if you get it!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Mine was 2nd hand 20 years ago and I paid $80. Maybe I got stuck back then, but I don't know. It has held up really well. Gotten quite a bit of use too.

You know these people best. It is fAMILY so I would start at 25 and see what the say. Heck you can always go up and they will mayby just let it go. No harm in trying :D

I saw one on Craigslist today for $50. I don't know if it is the same as your grandma's though

I bought an old style one, but was NEW in 1978 for $40. I've certainly had my good use from it

I was given my Grandmother's rug hooking frame about 10 years ago when she was breaking up her house. Along with tubs of fabric strips. She gave them to me because I used to draw the stuff on the burlap for her to hook. She also taught me. I have a pillow I made when I was about 13 or so. It's not in style but I keep it put away. I wish I had some of her rugs she made- they were beautiful.
I have a hook my Great Grandfather made for my grandmother- I have no idea how long ago. I have my hook she gave me when I was learning. It has a dot of pink nail polish on the end so I could tell it apart from hers. I wouldn't part with it for anything. (And I know my sisters are jealous that I have it.) |
