How much is a Viking Diamond?

Ok everyone, I had to ask. I am tired of searching around and the prices of the high end machines being a great big secret. I've seen some on Ebay for around $5000. Is that how much they are new or used? I'm sorry but I've been to my Viking dealerships in town and they were all so ditzy that I really don't want to go back in there just to find a price. So....can someone please answer this great big secret question? Also, there is a Viking Diamond and a Viking Diamond Deluxe? What is the difference? As always, I appreciate the wisdom of the board.
Thank you!!!

DebraK 06-13-2012 06:22 PM

kind of like a car, every dealer knows their bottom line.

Candace 06-13-2012 06:28 PM

If the machine is being sold on ebay, that would be a used machine price. Because they can't be sold on ebay and still have a warranty or dealer service. Warranties don't transfer on used machines. I don't know the new price.

Pam B 06-13-2012 07:07 PM

I honestly don't know. But I can tell you this much...it will depend upon the 'extras' you get with it. I am guessing you can probably get a Diamond for around $8000. And, I would think when the new Diamond comes out, you might be able to get a trade-in machine at a lesser price. Honestly, I would never purchase a machine from ebay. The warranty would not transfer and you would not have dealer support for it.

tsnana2000 06-13-2012 07:23 PM

This might give you an idea of the pricing: http://www.amazon.com/Husqvarna-Viki.../dp/B0037UF2JO

krysti 06-13-2012 07:24 PM

You are probably right DebraK; about them being like a car. Pam and Candace, I agree about the Ebay thing and the warranty not transferring. I would not purchase one from Ebay, I was just curious if their prices were about right or how much more they were at a dealer. It's just frustrating when you're trying to do research on different machines, and you can't get prices anywhere. I appreciate the input. Thank you!

mltquilt 06-13-2012 07:29 PM

Unfortunately the best way of determining price on the TOL machines for the major manufactures is to talk to the individual dealers. If there is a large quilt show in your area you can sometimes find several dealers in one location. I can tell you that Bernina's TOL machine runs close to $12000. The other machines probably run along those lines.

They were selling here new at the dealer for approx. $10,000. Of course, they usually gave you a discount if you bought all the extras, like the embroidery package, etc. My friend bought hers new and it is a fabulous machine. I could never afford one but have a Viking D1 which is about 11 yrs. old and love it. I bought it off ebay about 4 years ago. I just took a chance when I bought it online. The seller had a return policy so I felt good about buying it. I think the older machines are made better than the newer ones. Although, I can't say if I didn't have the money, I wouldn't go out and buy the Diamond!!

Christine George 06-13-2012 09:42 PM

I'm with joey. I bought my Rose in 1999. That's before the Designer models came out. It was $2500 on sale from a dealer. I wouldn't trade that machine......well......no, I wouldn't. If I got another machine it would be in addition to my Viking.

bearisgray 06-13-2012 09:56 PM

I agree that it's very hard to find prices on-line for the top of the line machines.

Very frustrating -

js3830 06-14-2012 02:57 AM

The only difference between the Diamond and the Deluxe is the decals. It was not worth trading my Diamond in on it. I know a very honest dealer. I traded in my 1999 Designer I and they gave me $1800 and I still payed around $7400. They were running 36 months same as cash which helped. I love the Diamond but I also just saw the Babylock Ellismo about a year ago and it would have made me have to think real hard if it would have been around in 2008. I had the Designer Pro software that worked with the Diamond. I waited until they had the 4D software on sale just before Christmas when I got it. Again the dealer called me and let me know that is was going to be the best deal. If I would have bought it all togeather it would cost almost $10,000. All of this was with tax. I hope this helped. If you are going to buy a Viking Diamond I WOULD not buy one from E-bay. I have one and love it but you really need someone to give your lessons on it. It is not like an old singer machine as there are different settings for different thickness of fabric you are sewing on and so worth. I use mine manly for embroidering and it just does so much. Buying it from a dealer new or used is the best thing you can do. You can now get a used Diamond for a better price as the deluxe have come out. I have the orginal diamond with the upgrade.

Val in IN 06-14-2012 06:00 AM

About a year ago, I saw the Viking Diamond at Joann's selling for over $9,000.00 (I really think that it was very close to the $10,000.00 mark but I didn't want to exagerate). I haven't actually looked since then because if I had that kind of money laying around, I wouldn't spend it on that.

romanojg 06-14-2012 08:51 AM

Here is my dealer/LQS website. They have new/used machines. I bought my Ruby which is a lot cheaper than the Diamond but not alot of difference considering my budget needed to be considered. You can go to Vikings website and do a comparision on their machines to see what the differences are in them as far as features and then look at the prices. I love my Ruby and know it'll be along time before I outgrow it or even learn to use it all. I go to classes each month and just bought the 5D Pro software because I love the cutwork needles and want to create my own plus I want to do the portraits and some other things it'll allow me to do. I love the large hoops; the Diamond only has one hoop larger than what mine will take. It's hard each month to make my payments but I'm so glad that this was my treat to myself last yr. When my ex walked out I decided I was treating myself to something good and I don't regret it.

heres the site

Wow Judy; that link was VERY informative--thank you!!!!! It's nice to have an idea of where the machines run. If I were to purchase one, I think it would be the Ruby as well. $10K is WAY too much $ for me! And on a side note, I'm glad you treated yourself to something when your ex walked out on you--you deserve it, and sometimes it's those things that we do for ourselves that help us recover the most. Thanks again! :)

Yes, you would think that they would at least put a 'suggested retail price' on their websites. Their prices are abnoxiously excessive anyway. I don't think any sewing machine is worth as much as these TOL machines cost anyway. Talk about excess. They only charge so much because there are people crazy enough to pay that much IMHO, The price of your machine is not going to make your quilting better, sorry to say.

You are most welcome. I love my dealer; they have been the best LQS since the first time I walked in and they offered me coffee and told me to take my time and look around. My machine had only 7hrs of use on it so I got it as used and the owner is the repair person for Viking and a teacher there so I knew even those 7 hrs were used with love and care; she went with the Diamond. I only paid 4500 for mine and got a warranty and classes. I love it that they put their prices up for anyone to see; that's the way it should be. Not everyone wants to go from store to store trying to find out a rough price on things. Just show me what you got; that shouldn't be too hard. I love my Ruby and it was a great treat to myself and I'm having lots of fun learning. Our teacher even offers special classes for things we want along with our monthly club. Then last month the viking educator came for the whole day and taught; that was great. You can't beat great support from your dealer. Thanks for the good words too.

I love my Rose, too, but it definitely isn't the Diamond.

Okay, here goes, I didn't read ALL the comments, so I may be duplicating some previous posts. I have a Diamond that I purchased a little over a year ago. My dealer just told me last week that they are $8995 here in PA. The difference between the Diamond and the Deluxe are in the package that comes with it. The Deluxe has some extra software that isn't included in the "Plain" Diamond. I got mine as a floor model. Before I bought it, they had sent it in for a thorough cleaning and checkup, also came with an extended warranty worth over $400 that I didn't have to pay for. I got my machine for $6000. I absolutely love it. I keep it set up for embroidery all the time and use my Topaz 30 for everyday sewing. I also have a Designer I and a Designer SE. I will never get rid of any of them. I keep one set up with a walking foot, and the other with white thread or whatever I will be needing. I am sure owners of other machines (Pfaff for example, or Brother) feel the same way when they get a particular machine, that they could never part with them. I like that all my machines take the same feet so I don't have to keep feet separated by machine. I have arthritis in my hands and wrists, so the needle threader and thread cutter are important to me.

junegerbracht 06-15-2012 04:26 AM

I love my Diamond - bought from a trusted well-respected dealer. I got a fair price and always have access to help if I have a question. I have had it for a year and find that it is very user friendly. Happy shopping!

matraina 06-15-2012 05:39 AM

You're right - it's frustrating trying to find pricing. I had the same problem before I bought my Bernina. I finally went to a dealer where I bought my first Bernina and our local quilt shop where I had taken lessons and compared prices and other things. I finally bought mine from the LQS.

MarleneC 06-15-2012 06:01 AM

The Viking Diamond sold in Alaska for around $9,000 -- I have a Viking Ruby and Designer 1 but if I was looking at another machine for the price I would go with the Pfaff machines. They now have a tension monitor that monitors the threads and sets the tension for each thread plus they have the IDT--the foot that works like a walking foot already built onto the machine. JMHO

jaly3162 06-15-2012 06:08 AM

You can buy a new one for $6,300 to $6,500.

The Diamond is no long manufactured. The Diamond Deluxe replaced it. The major difference between the Diamond and the Diamond Deluxe is that the Deluxe has thread portioning. The Diamond had an update that brought it up to par with the Deluxe except for the thread portioning system, which of course could not be updated. There may be a few small differences, but that is the major one. I have had the Diamond for three and one half years. I love it, but at this time because Viking gave us an update (which updates are free, I might add), I couldn't justify the difference to trade just for the thread portioning (which I think would be great). I think you could expect to pay between $8500 to $10000, depending on your dealer, packages, and specials that Viking might be offering at the time. 5D Embroidery software is the newest software, which I love.

Carol Jean 06-15-2012 06:25 AM

The last time I checked the price was much higher but every dealer has their own price. I stopped upgrading as it just became to expensive. It seemed like every time I turned around I was replacing boards on different brands of machines. I really like the older all metal machines. I've had them for years and not one problem with them. They just keep on ticking.

ShirlinAZ 06-15-2012 06:32 AM

This thread got me to thinking. Why am I so reluctant to spend $10,000 on a sewing machine, when I spend more than that on a car? I keep a car 3-5 years. I keep a good sewing machine 10 years, or longer if it is still working. All of a sudden the price of a long arm seems reasonable.

But I agree that prices of machines should not be such huge secrets. Auto manufacturers advertise the "list" price of cars and dealers still add their mark ups and sell cars. Sewing machine manufacturers could easily do the same.

I agree with you here. It is hard to comparison shop on these upper end machines on the internet because people don't want to openly quote a price. I don't know why since you can find other things, far more expensive, with prices on the internet (think cars)... All it does to me is make me wonder what the profit margin is that they don't want to quote any prices. It is hard to get any idea at all sometimes. Most of us don't care what their profit margin is, but in order to make a decent decision, we need information. Sitting at home peacefully in your chair is far less stress than in a dealer's office where things can get a bit stressful with a face to face sales pitch.

sylviak 06-15-2012 07:06 AM

Can you call and ask the company what the recommended price is?

pamesue 06-15-2012 07:09 AM

I spoke with my Viking dealer about 3 weeks ago....and if I wanted the Diamond w/5d basic I could get it for about $9,500. If I wanted to buy the Diamond with the 5D and trade in my Rose (which I LOVE)...I could have it for about $7, 100.

I think it was 36-48 months same as cash financing.....

I have the Rose and the D1.....and I love both of these machines....the extra large hoop is what appeals to me for the Daimond...not sure that justifys the expense...

anyway good luck...I really love my vikings.

newbee3 06-15-2012 07:14 AM

I also have Topaz 30 and I use mine for quilting and embroidery, I have quilt designer 11 and use that for sewing and I would not part with either of them

1bzygma 06-15-2012 07:50 AM

I just bought a Diamond Deluxe. I kept my Designer SE. I paid $7200 plus tax. This came with a life time of free lessons. I already had 5D software. I LOVE it. The tension control is worth every penny along with the thread cutter.

Robinlee 06-15-2012 09:09 AM

My mom just bought hers for this price from a respectable dealer in SD and it was NEW.

Had to look this up, just out of curiousity and found this one listed on sale for $5000 (factory repacked?)http://www.acesewvac.com/husqvarna-s...FVPftgodXyCjXA. Never knew sewing/embroidery machines could cost upwards of 10K, makes a longarm seem reasonable.

MazyZ 06-15-2012 10:13 AM

secret prices??

After trying to find prices for a Pfaff online, I had to start calling dealers. The difference is astounding!! Two places, one within 50 miles, one in another state, about $300 difference for the Ambition 1.0 or 1.5. And the distant dealer is not supposed to ship out of state?? Really? Craziness....

labtechkty 06-15-2012 07:01 PM

$9000, before taxes and all the extras, at my dealer...Would love to have one but....ouch!!

That's why I went with the Ruby; there is only one larger hoop that the Ruby can't handle; yet. They just came up with a bigger endless hoop and it also fits the Ruby. I'm going to pick it up today. I paid alot less for the Ruby and then just got my 5D Pro last month

Thank you. I don't know why all LQS/dealers can't do the same thing. Lets face it; when you are ready to buy seeing the price posted online isn't going to stop you. I also like how they link you to Viking so you can get more info on the machine. I have the Viking #1 (up for sale) the Ruby, the mega quilter and my next one will be a serger, maybe next yr if things go right. My viking teacher even puts links in her emails when she sends them each month for our month embroidery club to Viking to get our free monthly designs that Viking gives out. I'm new and want all the help/resources I can get.

That is a horrible price for used. I bought mine brand new a year ago, right after the Viking Convention where the DDD (Designer Diamond Deluxe) was unveiled. I bought mine from my local quilt shop that is a Viking Dealer at end of May. Mine was $9999 and with it came a beautiful chair from Viking on wheels with the Husqvarna Viking embroidered on chair back, 20% off at Myembroideries.com for about 3 months, and the big 5D Professional box of software. Besides all of this of course is local support from the shop including classes and free embroidery club membership. I do not know what today's price is for a brand new one. ALSO, the Viking Designer Diamond DeLuxe is now top of the line and replaced the Designer Diamond. One new feature is the Stitch Proportioning System.

Oh, and I love mine!
