Is Bargello pronounced with the "g" sound or is it pronounced with the "j" sound? I have been wondering this.

I was told by a LQS recently that it was like ......
Tom-ae-to, tom-ah-to
and Pot-ae-to and pot-ah-to

You'll hear it said both ways! :)

The word geezer comes to mind...as an exception. Also geyser, anger, finger, singer, gear, beget, gangbangers, (all the ng similar type words), gecko, geek, get, etc.....

until I'm tired of looking for them.

I kind of had the same question, so it's not as silly as one might seem.

Plus, since I teach EFL, I realize over and over that our pronunciation can be pretty arbitrary at times. Tonight I had the ough and augh sound. Bought and caught sound the same. :) though and thought are different vowel sounds though spelled the same.

I know the rules about the hard G and soft g usually coming when g comes before i, e, or y. But sometimes exceptions get the best of us.

Our English language is full of rules and then...EXCEPT for ...

Then there's the other English oddities ....

A bunch of goose are geese,
but a bunch of moose are not meese.

We park on the driveway
yet drive on the parkway.
