Hello everyone!
First off....you are all so amazing and all so very helpful! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-hug006.gif Again, I am a fairly new quilter. I am working on my second quilt and it will be for my manager at work for Christmas. I will be finishing up the top tonight and was wondering how should I quilt it so that you're still able to distinguish the blocks and so it doesnt look too busy? http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-scared002.gif I apparently have a quilting function on my sewing machine that I would love to have a go at. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...excited001.gif Any tips for beginners? http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-scared001.gif |

My favorite method is the Stitch-in-te-ditch quilting or sometimes I do grid quilting. Sometimes, I SID the blocks and tie in the center. How large are the blocks and are they sashed or butted together? Why don't you post a picture - I'm sure you'll get tons of good advice. |
They will be butted together and they are approx. 8" square.
I will try to get a picture of it tonight. |
I have a quilting function on my machine, but I have never tried it! Just found it not too long ago when I had the manual out for another purpose! I will have to try it.
If you are new at this, I would Stitch in the Ditch, and then do a little Free motion squiggling for fun. Don't make it too difficult for yourself. If you have a walking foot, use it for your SITD. It will keep your top and bottom together. Are you going to spray baste? Check out some of the tutorials here for help. Use Search. |
I also recently found mine out while searching through the manual to try and figure out what I had to do to clean my machine haha
It opened a whole new world for me with all sorts of functions I didnt know my machine had (plus a whole bunch of feet that I didnt know about either!). And the kicker...I've had my machine for 4 years! haha Thanks for your advice! I will keep you posted! (my next quilt will be using the now famous tube quilting method. I am super excited about this!) |
I had to keep re-reading your message. The animation kept distracting me

Just thought I'd make things a little fun :)
