Is this how UFO's happen?
 

I've been working on this GFG for several months. Spent a long time collecting mostly 30's reproductions because I love them and wanted it to be a little scrappy looking. Spent a long time pondering the path. White just doesn't work in my house it wouldn't look nice long. Found a gray that I love. These are large hexis (1 1/2 inch). But now that I have all the flowers done and have added path pieces and am in the final assembly I'm falling out of love fast. Not to mention it is like wrestling a bear trying to manuever the flowers around to hand sew them together. I'm very quickly getting to where I don't like the look at all. The lighting isn't the best in this picture - but does it really look as bad as I think?

I think you may have to 'take time away' from it if your falling out of love for it... im the same way, if it takes too long from start to finish i get bored ( annoyed that its not done yet more like it) so i work on something else and come back to it later when I'm refreshed and fall in love with it all over again..

I like the way it looks. I'm not an orange person, per se, but I'm loving the pops of orange against the gray. I would take a step back for a bit and then go back to it. I think you'll find that you have fallen back in love with it. Honestly, I think of a GFG as a long term project. One that you nibble away at. I think it would also be good when you just want something that you can work on without too much pre-planning since you've already done it.

Set it aside. Go back to it, maybe in winter. I'm sure the bright colors will really cheer you up then and you'll love all over again.

For me, if a project is a long drawn out process, I become bored with it. If I keep plugging away at a quilt that is taking what I think is too long to complete, I wind up hating it and not getting enjoyment out of my quilting time. I've learned to just put it away for a while (sometimes for a longer "while" than others! :p) I will eventually get back to it and if I don't then I don't. I give myself permission not to finish everything!

Putting it away until Winter sounds like an excellent idea. Often when a quilt is completed and quilted it looks much different.

I think your pattern and colors look great. And yes, when I experience burn out on a project it becomes a UFO for weeks, months and maybe years. LOL

I have been working on a GFG for about 3 years now. It is one of my take along projects. Lots of flowers started but none attached yet! When I get tired of it or begin to think it looks awful I just put it away and forget about it for a few weeks or months. When I need another take along project I just grab and go! Step away for awhile then go back to it

Definitely put it on the back burner for a while. I have often fallen out of love with a quilt, only to pick it up six months or a year later and wonder why I ever gave up on it... Some of my best quilts were born this way!! I like yours!
