What do you think of this? What questions should I ask? I sent a starting list of about 6 questions, the most obvious- age, service history, prior us, etc.

What shall I be on the look out for?

I don't know but I hope you get it. Ask if this includes the frame...and if there is still a transferable warranty on it...

does in include stitch regulator, what upgrade is it? On a 10 ft table what is the largest quilt you can load? will it take a queen size? are any needles included?

Hope this helps.

ahhh, warranty- that's very good!

the picture shows the track and long poles for the fabric, batting and backing. It says just needs a 10' table. (I have an 8" banquet table right now)

I just bought a mattress and box spring today for our bed. And paid the taxes last week on the house. grrr, need to sell my antique living room furniture or a car (anyone want a 1960 Nash metropolitan?) to get it.

I've been watching for 3 years for a long arm and this is the cheapest I've ever seen one. Just need to be sure it's what will fit my needs.

need more input please!

I think the HQ 16 is one of the machines that counts every stitch so you may want to know how many this machine has so you know how much it has been used. Does this price include the leaders as they can be expensive to replace. Also HQ16 has a video that comes with the purchase so is that included or is that something you would have to call and order? Lots of good info on it. Also, something to keep in mind when and if you do buy this the tracks on frame are held down with 3m double side sticky tape so have that on hand before you pick it up or you wont be able to play when you get home. Hope this helps a little. Let us know if you purchase this.

I don't know any sewing machine or long arm manufacturer that transfers a warranty to a second owner.

This is extremely cheap for a 2008 handi quilter, even without the table. You want to know how much it has been used, whether for her pleasure or quilting for others, if she does't have a frame, what kind of table did she use, what software updates she has purchases, the video some one mentioned, and what extras does it includes, I.e bobbins, spool holder, whether this is a regulated or unregulated machine whether it has been serviced (thinking of routine cleaning). For this price, I really wonder about the stitch regulator. Does it include the camps for the table. If not, go on line and price them. Good luck. This is an incredible price, almost too good to be true. I would want to know why she is selling it.

I assume that this is neR you. Ask if you can come try it out.

quilter41 09-17-2011 05:17 PM

They are much easier to use on a frame. Ask me how I know?

Jingle 09-17-2011 05:21 PM

Good luck with get the right answers. I hope you get it if it is what you want.

Sounds like it doesn't come with the table and my guess is that it doesn't have a stitch regulator for that price, but both can be added...seems like a very good price. I'd check the handiquilter site out to see how much you could get a table and stitch regulator for so you have an idea of what you might need to invest. I have heard their pro frame made out of steel is very nice. It may be a challenge to test it out if they don't still have a table..it can also be set on a sit-down table version. Seems like a good deal if it's in good shape.

You know what they say - if it sounds too good to be true - it is probably something that you should walk away from. I nearly got stung with just such a "good deal" 3 years ago. Thank heavens I ended up not going for the "good sounding deal" - a HQ 16 for $4,000.00. The little voice in my head kept saying - turn this one down. Plus the woman kept saying she had to have cash... another red flag - because I wanted to give her a money order from the bank. It turns out that the table with the good deal was a homemade one that did not collapse and the stylus was one that the quilter herself made.... HHHUUUMMM!!! I waited and just this spring I purchased a 3 year old HQ16 - in beautiful condition - only about 8 to 10 tops had been completed on this machine - it came with the 12 foot adjustable table - and several of the attachments. It was definitely worth the wait - the machine cost me $5500.00 and it was worth every penny. I love the HQ16 - I was so glad that I waited. Please be careful - money is too hard to come by these days and it would be a shame to end up with a machine that would not be what is promised in the Craigslist ad.

Good luck - and listen to the voice in your head - you know the one that makes you step back and think through the entire deal.

Sounds like its a table mounted Handiquilter frame. I had a HQ16 and loved it. Added a Quilters Cruise Control (an add on stitch regulator) and it purred like a kitten. Only reason I sold it, was because I wanted to quilt bigger quilts. Found a used Gammill and sold the HQ to a friend who runs the heck out of it. I can find the link to the Cruise Control if you want it. Ask if you can try it out.

finally heard back from her- it was sold. Bet one of you here grabbed it. hehe.

oh well, I was wondering how I was going to get the 10' poles in my car.
