I just noticed that HSN (Home Shopping Network) has a Singer Sew and Go computerized sewing machine for $399.95 if anyone is interested.

I saw it last night on HSN. It is a great deal! I believe it is a private release. There is over $500 worth of accessories that come with it! Every foot imaginable!!! The machine retails for almost $600 by itself.

On impulse, I bought a Singer Quantum from HSN some years ago, and it's been great. It's computerized and not one bit of trouble. I have used it to FMQ and buttonhole applique. The satin stitch is the best I've seen from any machine. I'm glad I bought it, I noticed the same model Quantum selling used for more then what I paid for mine new.

I bought a Singer on the daily special two years ago, it was $499 and had all the bells and whistles also, it was a piece of junk. Never would sew right, had it in for service twice within the first 6 months, finally gave it away. Will never trust a Singer again no matter how good it looks on TV

I was just watching the show. I've never sewn before and I want to learn. Based on everything they said and all the accessories, this looks like a great deal but I'd love to hear from people who know about this.... Is this worth it? It seems user friendly and I could grow with the machine... starting simple and then progress to more amazing things. But again, I know nothing! Advice?

i have vintage singers including a FW and i have the newer quantum and i do not see a difference in stitch quality and it sure is nice having all the modern features.
i never sew on my vintage singers but i do use the newer quantum from time to time. if i didn't have my day to day juki i would not having a problem buying this machine. i don't know if the quantum will be here 100 years from now like my vintage singers but it doesn't matter to me since i never sew on my 100 year old singer any way. |

i don't have a serger, only because i haven't felt the need for one when all i do is quilt and make handbags.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't buy a NEW Singer, OLD yes.

I bought a low end, non-computerized Singer about 15 years ago and although I have been happy with it, I would not buy a Singer again. I have heard so many negative things about the newer Singers that I think it is a risk. I would probably buy a Brother. I haven't heard anything negative about Brother and they are affordable for me. I had a older Brother I got at the thrift store and it sewed well for years. I should have kept it.

At HSN you can buy and sew on the machine for 30 days and decide if you want to keep it or not. There is no risk. If you don't like it send it back. Save the box and all packing material. I can only review my older Singer Quantum. It's been a great machine and I don't baby it at all. It's gone through several power surges and still the computer screen pops right back up. Singer for some reason makes two qualities of the same machine. One for lower price and one for top of the line. Same with their needles. The needles sold in the red and white package are top quality the Singer needles sold in the yellow/black package are lower quality. Many times you'll see Singer products being sold for a very high price when you know you seen them lots cheaper elsewhere. It's the different quality. Makes no sense to me at all.

I guess I'll find out soon enough how good it is. I ordered one last night. If it's as good as they say it is I'll have a wonderful machine. If it doesn't live up to my standards then I will be out shipping cost because I will send it back in a flash if it doesn't do what I want it to. I'll keep you posted when it gets here. Janice

Good luck! I've decided to start out with less expensive and simpler model. Joann Fabrics is having a sale on the Brother XL2610 machine for $99. I figure that might be a little less daunting. Please report back on the Singer model though. I'd love to hear from a non salesperson!

I ordered it as today's special and have enjoyed learning how to use it, no problems so far. This is my first computerized machine so I don't have another one to compare it to. Diggin' all the different stitches.

update: the foot pedal did not work, I called Singer and they are mailing me a new one.

The last item I returned to HSN, the return postage was credited to my credit card. I haven't ordered from them in a while though.

I'm one of the ones that would never buy a NEW Singer, an OLD one yes, but everyone has their own opinion, this just happens to be mine.

well.. it's going back to HSN. Overall, I don't think it will last more than a few years d/t cheapo plastic parts here and there... the the automatic thread cutter is acting up, the bobbin winder didn't automatically stop, and the tension got wacko when I changed from ordinary cotton quilting type thread to a silky thinner thread. Tried to adjust it and nothing worked. No, I am not paying 400 bucks for a machine to give me a headache.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I watched the presentation and knew it wasn't the quality of my older Quantum. But I did order the Kodak Easy Share camera! Now that was bargain and I've been looking for a new one. Free shipping to boot.
