I would love to say thank you to everyone who has sent me I-SPY fabric for all these quilts. If you just could have seen the look in my daughters eyes and heard her sqeal like a pig you would just die from laughter (she's 22) hahahaha She now wants and I-spy quilt. hahahahhaaha For a while there I thought she was 6 again. hehehehe Any how I do have a big question can you mix flannel squares with regular squares? I just don't know. If so my daugther has picked out the grand daughters I-Spy fabrics and I know my daughter will be lighting a fire under my butt.

I've mixed them. Granted they weren't big pieces, but have done it. I made sure I prewashed EVERYTHING in case of shrinkage. I usually don't prewash, but since sometimes flannel will shrink and sometimes it won't, I washed it all together, just to be sure.

Oh, and to clarify. I washed the ENTIRE piece of flannel, not the squares.
Thought I would clarify that. Would hate for someone to cut the squares, then wash them and then have a mess on their hands.

Thanks, but some are precut, so I think I'll have to wash (warm?) and wring, and then iron right away for shrinkage. What do you think?

I have always heard you can't mix and match flannels with cottons because of the weights and shrinkage issues but I haven't tried it, either. My guess is that someone with experience could really give you the heads up. I imagine that it would be harder to keep your hexagons lined up and prevent puckering, if that is something you're interested in. Would love to see pics of the process!! I'm in the midst of the grandmother's flower garden. I see hexagons everywhere LOL :lol: !!

I did a quilt for my daughter. One of the pieces in the block is flannel. Somewhere in the picture section is a picture of it.....
Anyway....the pieces are square/rectangle and I think the name of the pattern I used was Just Can't Cut It.
I just had to be careful not to stretch the flannel. It had some "give" to it, but it worked out fine. The quilt has been washed a few times and it's fine. No shrinkage to it...but like I said, I washed it before I made it.

Renee, flannel shrinks but not as much as "flannellette". They look pretty much alike, with flannellette being slightly less luxurious until you wash them. Flannel won't pill or shrink half as much as the other. You'll find that the flannellette doesn't keep the square shape you had it in after the prewash, but begins to take on a slanted square almost diamond shape. HOpe this helps. Best of luck to you.

Okay thanks to everyone I'm going to have to think about it, since i can get 50 squares for the I-Spy quilt (I think) but some are small. Hummmmmmmmmmmm what to do. hahaha
