Walmart is keeping their fabric depts!! yipppeee! This is what the sales lady in the fabric dept here in Glen Burnie told me today. They are changing this store into another Super Walmart and they are keeping their fabric. She didn't know if the ones already closed would be getting them back. But, it seems they will not be closing any more fabric depts. From what she told me Walmart has been getting petitions, phone calls and emails to keep fabric in their stores. Hopefully she knows what she's talking about.

craftybear 03-30-2011 02:13 PM

that is great news, I hope they bring the fabric department back at ours

crafty_linda_b 03-30-2011 02:14 PM

Susan the gal who works at our walmart fabric told me the same thing..they got so many complaints they are not going to close it...well the one at the store in Klamath Falls Ore anyway...
you can call 1-800-WALMART to complain...

cjomomma 03-30-2011 02:17 PM

That's wonderful. Ours never lost theirs just down sized it but now it's bursting at the seams with faric. One lady told me to today that they are gonna get 5000 yards of fabric next month. They don't have room.

Sandee 03-30-2011 02:17 PM

Hope we get some of ours back!! I have 5 WM's within 10 miles & 2 they never put it in, 2 they closed, & the farthest away still has some.

quilt'nmomma 03-30-2011 02:22 PM

I hope ours gets there dept back but I doubt it. They just finished clearing it out a few weeks ago. They are getting ready for there remodel.

jillnjo 03-30-2011 02:26 PM

Exiting!! Our Walmart downsized, but I remember we used to go there and get scads of $1 a yard fabic. It was a blast!! Maybe that will happen again if we all complain in a kind way about what we want and will shop for.

AlwaysQuilting 03-30-2011 02:28 PM

That's great for the stores which still have fabric.
Ours has been gone for 3 yrs I think.
I hope they bring it back.

susanwilley 03-30-2011 02:29 PM

She also said something about packaged fabric. 2 yards bagged and hanging on racks in some of the stores. She said they had complaints about that too. It wouldn't be good for someone who needs more than 2 yards that isn't pieced together but it would work ok for us quilters. Maybe they will bring back fabric to the ones closed.

TonnieLoree 03-30-2011 02:32 PM

Thats good to know. WM is the only place to buy fabric in La Grande. I was upset when they discontinued selling embroidery floss last year.

QuiltnNan 03-30-2011 02:48 PM

i just finished sending feedback to walmart on their website. hopefully it will help.

Rebecca VLQ 03-30-2011 02:57 PM

ha ha ha ha ha!

I personally love this, because originally it felt like "We are Giant Wal Mart. We know what's best for you. Here, have a celebration section..." and now it's like "Gee, guys...I think we effed up. How do we fix this?"

SuziC 03-30-2011 03:45 PM

YEAH!!!!!!!!

icon17 03-30-2011 04:04 PM

Lets not get to happy by Fabric they may mean 'Pre packaged' only!!

pab58 03-30-2011 04:15 PM

I have one near me that still has fabric on bolts, but the other one nearby only has pre-cut fabrics. The bad thing is that I prefer going to the second one! I sure wish they would sell bolt fabric. :?

Ours, too! In fact they've put in some better quality fabrics! Whooopeee!

mzsooz 03-30-2011 05:06 PM

We never lost ours but now they sure have some pretty spring fabrics!! Now all I need is an influx of money!

Ditto---I hate having to drive 97 miles to small town to get fabric from Walmarts...But they have good buys...for us on a budget!

cakebaker 03-30-2011 05:34 PM

Sure do hope they bring fabric back, I don't go to walmart any more since they took the fabric out, I buy our food and hardware elsewhere. Don't miss them a bit.

LAB55 03-30-2011 05:45 PM

I hope we get in back in the ones here in Western mountain Maryland !!
I has been about 3 years since they took it out.
:-)

grammysews4u 03-30-2011 08:26 PM

It would be a smart move if they do!!!yipppeeeee!!!

Colorful Quilter 03-30-2011 08:26 PM

Ours is still carrying fabric and keep adding new lines, our trouble is finding somebody that works in the dept.

blanka 03-31-2011 02:57 AM

good to hear that walmart keeping it over there where you at too.i was very happy to hear that walmart keeping it over here, since that is my nearest walmart and i be driving already 35 min to get there.god bless all of you

quilt3311 03-31-2011 03:01 AM

The Walmart near me has had a remodel, they still have a fabric department, but its way smaller than before. better than nothing though.

smagruder 03-31-2011 03:03 AM

I have talked to store managers, written my local stores, and emailed several times Wal Marts headquarters.... Finally, someone listens.

As I understand it some stores do have pre-packaged but they are keeping the bolt fabrics. Hopefully, they will be bringing the bolts back to all the stores.

Same here. I have no reason to drive the few extra miles to shop there now. I have other stores closer to me. The only reason I went to WalMart was their fabric department then stayed to buy clothes and food.

deema 03-31-2011 03:06 AM

I sincerely doubt ours will be getting yardage back. They just did a *huge* remodel, and wouldn't have anywhere to put it. It's fine...I do most of my fabric shopping online anyhow, because it's far too expensive to buy fabric locally.

Crafty Linda left a number above. 800- walmart. call and complain, it can't hurt and might just help!

nana4baj 03-31-2011 03:11 AM

Great news for you!

JNCT14 03-31-2011 03:28 AM

All our Walmarts by me (middle of CT) closed their fabric departments and put in that stupid Celebration aisle. I have never seen anyone in it. Gee you think they would have done some focus groups or something to see if getting rid of their fabric was a good idea. We have the LQS scattered around and Joann's of course (I am SO tired of their stuff - it never changes...)but since The Fabric Place closed, we really don't have many places to get reasonably priced fabrics. I love the LQS but its hard for them to compete ($9.00/yd is just too much...) - we have no Hancocks or Keepsake Quilting here.....

Fran Juern 03-31-2011 03:35 AM

This is great news------ BUT that was the rumor over a year ago and one by one they are taking the fabric out of all the Walmarts in this area. What's up?

olebat 03-31-2011 03:39 AM

Woot, Woot!!

bgullett 03-31-2011 03:53 AM

I hope ours comes back! Fingers crossed.

sugarloaf 03-31-2011 03:59 AM

Hi i hope the Walmart in Adrain and Jonesville ,Mich. get the fabric department backtoo. I like their material.

Same here....only when the music got too loud, the "commercials" were in Spanish, and the aisles were soooo crowded that you couldn't move.......well I had a panic attack right then and there...couldn't breathe, couldn't think, couldn't move. :-(

After this happened four times, I gave up. I shop only at Target now, and LQS for fabric......and only on extremely rare occasions, like less than once a yr, do I venture into a Walmart...and NEVER EVER ALONE........

Guess I just can't handle what the Walmart powers that be deem is to be my shopping experience...........you know, that "international, extremely crowded" experience in my own backyard.......

But for those of you who can and do enjoy shopping at Walmart...congrats on getting your voice heard....

Where do you find a Walmart fabric dept. within 95 miles in Oklahoma??? I thought they closed all our fabric depts.

CarrieAnne 03-31-2011 04:28 AM

The on in our little town is still there! I cant beleive it, they said theywould be closing back in Jan. Now they arent sure?! Hope not!
The huge one, in our Walmart in the city closed this year. They had a huge selection, lots of fabrics of all kinds!

ljptexas 03-31-2011 04:30 AM

The 2 WM closest to me quit selling bolts & those pkgs are too expensive. Found 1 that still has the bolts but it's farther away, so that's where I'll shop. I'm over in that area quite a lot, picking up GDs, etc.
