Husqvarna Iris Embroidery machine ???
 

I found a Husqvarna Iris on CL and the asking price is $250. The lady told me it was given to her and she had it serviced for $100 (I'm guessing just cleaning, etc...don't know when it was done). It has the embroidery hoops & manuals, but no embroidery cards. Also has a nice tapestry bag..the machine looks to be in good condition. Does anyone have one ? Are they nice machines if I can get it for a decent price ? What year were they made ? I don't really care about the embroidery part as long as the machine runs well. Any input will be helpful Thanks

Don't know about an Iris. I have a Rose I bought in 1999 for $2500 ON SALE!!! I love it. They're all metal. The needle will move from side to side on mine so I can set the edge of the foot for 1/4 inch. Look on the Husqvarna site or look up the folks on the Yahoo blog for Viking machines. You might also find someone with some embroidery cards they want to sell for cheap. Otherwise mine run about $150 each. You'll get many good years out of it even if you don't do any embroideries.

I think that you will love the machine. I just bought a Viking #1 plus embroidery machine for $200 on Kijiji (Canadian version of Craig's List) and it is the same vintage as the Iris and I love it. The embroidery parts for this machine are still sealed in the original cartons and couldn't possibly been used. I haven't got past the basic stitching part but it sews so much better than my Janome 6500. There's no veering off seam junctions or growling jamming bobbins with this machine. I really like the nice even stitches and the longer basic stitch length. I think it will be a great machine.

I did a search and found embroidery cards for the Iris,Rose and Viking1 on Amazon. I have Viking Scandanavia400(which simular to the rose) and it is a total workhorse.

Thanks everyone for the info so far. I'm suppose to go see it later today, so any more info will be helpful. I do have a Viking #1 (no embroidery) I got used about 12-13 years ago. It might be close to 20 years old ? It finally broke, just wouldn't start one day. I'll check here later today. Thanks again. Everyone on the board always comes through.

You can find cards on ebay for it. You'll probably need the magic box to see them which won't work on any operating system after XP; I tried. You could ask her who did the servicing and call them to see what they say about the condition of the machine and if the value is right and also check to see if any are on ebay; it'll give you a price point. Vikings are great machines; I have a Viking #1 (for sale since I can't afford 2 machines and I have the Ruby) a Ruby, and a mega quilter. You can check your area and get classs; if not from a viking dealer than another store having embroidery classes. Most don't care what machine you have. We also have a sew and vac place here that has them. To me that price sounds really good.

If you get it check the feet; most of the ones you use on the #1 can also be used on others. All of my #1 feet could be used on the Ruby except for the walking foot. I bought the new dual interchangeable walking foot for it. I'm not sure what hoops will work but if you search around on Vikings website they have a list of what hoops go with what machines. I can never go right to it when I need to.

Hi everyone...Well, checked out the machine today and it was in really nice condition. We did have a problem with the pressure foot bar (the thing that lifts the needle bar). It was very touchy and the machine wouldn't sew unless we let it drop hard. Almost like some sort of connection in it. She did say it had never done that before (I believed her). She had let someone else take it on a trial run for a few days. One thing I didn't like was that it had to be used almost like a free arm for regular sewing ??? So the sewing area was small. Maybe something was missing ? BTW, it was dated 2002. Still might consider it after doing more research on it. It did have the hoops. Thanks again
