A friend of mine just got a "retired" home ec sewing machine from the high school. It's a Husqvarna Viking 6020, and seems to be from the 60's or 70's, but I'm really not sure. It's got a lot of metal in it, that's for sure.

Anyway, I was going to help her set it up and learn to sew to make some PJ pants for her kids for Christmas, but it turns out she has no bobbins for it! My bobbins don't fit her machine.

I went to Joanne's and asked the lady in the Huskqvarna section there, but she didn't know anything about the older machines, and suggested I try to find the manual on the company's website, which should have the bobbin type in it.

The Husqvarna site doesn't seem to have manuals or anything about the older machines.

Does anyone know what type of bobbins these machines take, and where the bobbins might be available? Does anyone have an old manual that they'd be willing to send me (I could pay postage). I have found some places that sell the manual to download online, but it's about $8 and I don't think she has the money to do that right now.

I had purchased the Viking 6030 in 1971-72. If memory serves me correctly, they took a common metal bobbin. Your friend has purchased a workhorse:-) Since I didn't retain any bobbins when I passed that machine forward, I suggest you post your question to the Virtual section for Vintage Sewing Machines. Good luck!

I have an older Viking and it only uses Viking bobbins, they have a slight contour to them and the ones I have are all plastic. It has to be specific to your machine, not "any" Viking bobbin will work. Try a Viking dealer, I have only been able to find them at trade shows. I just got back from the Houston festival and tried to get some from the Viking dealers there but they didn't bring any with them for the older machines. Good luck!

I found this on Google. I googled viking bobbins for 6020.

I have a Husqvarna Viking machine and have purchased accessories from the Colorful World of Sewing. They carry accessories for all different sewing machines. They have bobbins for the 6000 series listed.

Thank you for the information, featherweight and Calzo!

Kay - I bet since it is a home ec machine, it really is a workhorse! I hope she'll be able to get a lot of use out of it.

I am not a great sewer but would like to get into the craft. I just purchased a used Husqvarna Viking 6020 off of Craig's list. It seems to run beautifully but I was wondering, as it came with no accessories, if there are some I should look for. Also, does anyone know the differences between the 5010, 6020, 6030, and 6040 models? I see parts on eBay and am not sure if all 6000 series models take the same accessories.

You may get better response posting on the Vintage Machine part of the board.
