I have been going through my storage boxes and realised i have purchase far too many items that are the same including
8 packs of quilters sewing needles,<20 needles in each pack>
234 threads some the same colour
8 pairs of scissors, some the same sizes
4 templates are the same size and shapes
I could go on but i guess i purchased when its cheap and never look at what i actually have until i decided to sort out my storage boxes i do think i am becoming a quilting hoarder lol whoooops

lots2do 03-05-2011 11:08 AM

I found five packages of rotary blades with five in each package. Every time I went to Joann's with a 50 % off coupon, I stocked up not realizing how many I had. Now, I'm so glad I found them and while start changing my blade when I need to.

bev195000 03-05-2011 11:12 AM

So some things are good to keep buying lol i always say they will eventually be used but heck i never realised i had so much stuff lol

cabbagepatchkid 03-05-2011 11:14 AM

Ha ha....you'd better stay out of the Vintage Sewing Machine section, of the forum, because there is some serious hoarding going on over there but it's more difficult to find places to put all of the vintage beauties that follow us home

bev195000 03-05-2011 11:16 AM

Indeed i have had to purchase 2 more mini storage boxes to add all the small items i have purchased over the months gone by. Everything new has to have a place to go ,

But, it keeps us off the streets!

sueisallaboutquilts 03-05-2011 03:27 PM

I read this to my hubby and he just shook his head smiling.
No shock to him lol :D:D

Lori S 03-05-2011 03:35 PM

I do not even want to count the doubles or triples of stuff. I see nothing wrong with 8 pairs of sissors! There is still a chance they won't be where you want them !

Country1 03-05-2011 05:00 PM

It's OK I am willing to help you ALL. Just send me all your overstock and free up space for you to get more, really I don't mind helping you all out!

quiltlonger 03-05-2011 07:00 PM

BUT I only have ONE husband!!! that counts ,right??

HummerGardenCrafts 03-05-2011 07:03 PM

Prices keep raising on us quilters on everything. I figure we all will be glad we have extra items soon. I know if I catch a good buy or clearance, I stock up.

carolaug 03-05-2011 07:34 PM

I went to the fabric store out of boredom today and bought more fabric..my husband says...do you think you are ever going to use all of the fabric you have now...of course...I am just building my flower stash...LOL...

MadQuilter 03-05-2011 07:42 PM

Well, you can either make some money by selling what you don't need OR you have a few things to share with your quilting friends OR you can donate the items to community service groups that do quilting OR you can put the items in easy reach and cut/sew till they are dull and used up. Don't ya love options? lol

Sounds like me, I have more excuses, though. The day before yesterday I decided I needed an outing in town ( I live about 10 miles outside) and I needed to get a spool of thread anyway. The thread cost me nearly 50 euros (70 $). Including fabric which I did not necessarily need. But it was soooo pretty. But how can I bring myself to cut up these beauties is my constant problem so I simply buy more when "needed".

I don't think you're a hoarder, but maybe you could organize your quilting supplies a little better? Scissors and templates a bit much, but as far as the sewing needles and threads that's not too many. They do not have a experiation date. I have at least half a plastic shoebox of rotary blades.I buy them whenever I catch them on sale.

bluadept 03-06-2011 05:34 AM

I have at least 8 pairs of scissors none of which I purchased for quilting. They are all from my regular sewing and scrapping hobby. I try to keep all of them separate for sewing vs cropping. But at times I find my sewing scissors have gone walk about. So having the other scissors just to cut threads helps.

dorrell ann 03-06-2011 06:05 AM

Never!!!!

martyquilter 03-06-2011 06:07 AM

LOL.. I couldn't believe what all I found when I cleaned my sewing room in Jan...... oh well I think we will use them
eventually but now you know so you can spend your money on other things to hoard!!!!

Monie 03-06-2011 06:14 AM

Engine won't to get rid of some send my way. A newbie . Hehe

kaykwilts 03-06-2011 06:14 AM

I thought the reason God made all those really cool plastic stacking drawer things is so we had places to put all the stuff we buy in triplicate, fouthuletts, fiveuletts, etc....am I missing something here?????;))

Monie 03-06-2011 06:15 AM

I meant anyone. Sorry

LoriMcc 03-06-2011 07:20 AM

Welcome! I'm glad I'm not alone!

sash 03-06-2011 07:20 AM

I think it's good to have more than one of anything (sewing related). lol.

Tweety2911 03-06-2011 08:04 AM

Oh ditto here as well. I have two gingher embroidery scissor, duplicate rulers, patterns, etc. Sometimes it is easier to buy new than to try and find what I can't remember if I have :-)

Dianne1 03-06-2011 08:41 AM

Do the same thing purchase fabric, then repurchase it 3 or 4 months later. Quilt books I think I must have 7 or 8 duplicates. I do believe that I have 5 sets of the tri-rec rulers. I could go on and on but then I would have to go thru my sewing room and would find a whole lote more. The nice thing about this is that someday you won't needd anything///

that is part of your problem...you put inside of boxes and then you never see it....out of sight out of mind!

peg board to hang things on would be better..IF you have to use storage containers, for what ever reason, then you really need to label the boxes/drawers and then open them and take a pix of it..keep a photo journal of what you have...

also, keep an index card in your purse/wallet with the normal things on it., 45mm blades-qty on hand-XXX, 8" scissors- qty on hand-XXXX, quilting needles-qty on hand-XXX, etc, etc....
make a list of the needles you really do need, different sizes, microtex, denim, etc and start looking to buy more specialty items if you feel the need to buy something!

p38flygirl 03-06-2011 01:32 PM

But at least we don't run out of stuff...

bev195000 03-06-2011 01:49 PM

Its so good to know i am not the only one who buys and buys quilt items i thought i was going crazzzzyyyyy lol
I best stay away from ebay as the bargains of quilt items for sale are so irresistible i have to buy buy buy lol

OraLee 03-06-2011 04:30 PM

Oh Boy is guess I'm just cheap. I still have my first pair of Ginger scissors from 10 years ago. I just keep having them sharpened when they need it. No one is aloud to touch them. But I do have 3 pair of embrodery scissors. No duplicates on rulers.

craftymatt2 03-06-2011 04:44 PM

Well at least it keeps us off the streets and out of the bars, (wait I'm thinking about the bar)I have sooooo much stuff I'm ready to punch me. My hubs and i spent the day cleaning up the basement and getting rid of our kids stuff, they left but forgot to take their stuff with. I couldn't find my huge sewing table, it was soooo buried. Now I can see it and use when my sewing machine comes back from the maintenance dr.

bigdogmom 03-06-2011 04:49 PM

I used to buy the same magazines twice. One of the other nurses I worked with loved my mistakes, as I would always bring the duplicate to her! I am guilty of being a needle, scissor and gaget collector. Take that back, I am guilty of overbuying everything. But, always ready and have what anyone needs.

FranCFries 03-06-2011 05:06 PM

Do a swap with other quilters! Each time I have things I don't (extra), need - I get ahold of my quilt buddies & we get together with our extra stuff (sometimes they bring extra blocks, etc), and we swap. Easy way to get rid of extra stuff (that would take years to use), easy way to enjoy an afternoon and an easy way to clean up extras in each of our sewing rooms.

OES184 03-06-2011 05:30 PM

I took an inventory of all my templates and my sewing machines feet. I printed them & keep a copy in my purse. That has prevented me from buying duplicates on several ocassions.

bgullett 03-06-2011 05:34 PM

You can never be to prepared, for anything!!!!!

Stitchit123 03-06-2011 06:24 PM

BEEN THERE-I took my excess-oops I meant to say extra notions and etc etc and made up a Starter Kit for a young girl in my neighborhood and the smile and hugs were the best Now she is a really good seamstressand quilter

Nettie Phillips 03-06-2011 06:50 PM

I don't have the problem with buying those things. My problem
is fabric. I see new and it is pretty and have to have some.
