More of my pretties. Now I'm wondering if I can bring myself to cut them into pieces for my quilt. LOL!!

You have some beautiful pieces! I just recently got the feedsack bug too...love them. Do you mind me asking on average what you are paying for a sack? I guess I am just trying to figure out what is a good price for them, etc.

It depends on the size really. The "going" rate....I think....is about $15-$18 for larger bags, $10 for medium and $5-$8 for small bags. I try to set myself a limit and not pay any more than $15 but there have been a few times I've paid more because I just had to have it. That's definitely where I draw the line!!! I think I paid $18 apiece for them at Blushing Rose Boutique. I will have to say that once this quilt is finished it will most definitely be my most expensive one. I'll probably end up protecting it with my life! LOL!!

Kim thanks for your help. I can't imagine what the original feedsack owners would think of us spending $18 on one bag just for the fabric!(and $100 for one bag, wow!) I have a feeling it is going to take me longer than I thought to collect the fabric because of cost...but it will totally be worth it! I think I am just going to do a small scrappy quilt any ideas where to buy smaller pieces other than eBay, etsy?
I need to do a little research, I'm not sure why some sacks go for so much more than others. Thanks again!

I think I'm going to do 4" or 5" squares and tie it instead of quilting it.

I am so sad...wanting to cry! I saw a beautiful grandma's garden quilt top on etsy that was just listed today. In GREAT condition, beautiful feedsack prints- bright and colorful...I absolutely loved it. I had it in my cart...planned to buy it...but thought I should think about it, and got busy with my 4 kids. My 6 week old was fussy, didn't get to go back until a few hours later, and it's GONE...gone. Sorry to complain, but it was only $55 and like I said in GREAT shape. I know people find them at estate sales for much cheaper, but for me it would have been worth the money because at this point in my life I don't get a chance to go to estate sales, and where I am there aren't many anyway. Not to mention that Grandma's garden quilts are my favorite. Oh well, I'll just have to keep my eye open for another one I like.

When my husband and I go to the MAC Tool Fair in Nashville in a couple of weeks I'm taking along all of my sacks and am going to start cutting squares. That way I'll have something to do while he's spending money on tools to put into inventory. LOL!! I've done the very same thing you did with the quilt on Etsy on Ebay. I find something I really, really want and don't get it right at that moment or put in a bid planning on staying on top of it and then get busy. When I remember it, and go back, it's gone!!! I was bidding on a feed sack earlier this week and it was down to about 5 seconds left and I was high bidder. WOOHOO!!! The sack was sooooo pretty!!! I just knew I had it so went to see how long was left on another auction and then I hear, "You've been outbid." I about passed out. Can't repeat on here what I said but it was very colorful and definitely something a lady shouldn't be saying. The way I see these things is we weren't suppose to have them at this time and something better will come along for us. I'll keep an eye out for that pattern you like and PM you should I see something. I wish we had estate sales around here too. People find such wonderful things but like you they just aren't held around here much.

Turn off the internet! it aint gonna happen. I too have an addiction to 1930 feed sacks. I only wish I had some of the ones my oldest sister use to make my nieces dresses out of. I turned to buying the repo's because I knew I could never cut into the feed sacks that I have. They are safely tucked away in a cedar chest. I have a hard time cutting into the repo's. So... you are not alone.

tho i knew what feedsacks were, i had no real interest in them. then at a farm auction in PA in mid 80’s i bought a small box of fabric for .25 cents. about a dozen feedsacks ..intact :). since then i have accumulated many. at auctions, yard sales, estate sales etc. don't anymore because of the prices they ask for now, but like you, mine are safely tucked away ..too beautiful to cut. i don't even want to remove the stitching now as it being such an integral part of their history. i also have lots of scraps ..identified via stitch holes& matching the prints & texture. those will go into quilts someday
