I usually fill 4 bobbins before I start piecing a quilt; but I am on my last bobbin and am just starting the sashing. Like you, I'll probably run out of bobbin thread as I sew that perfect seam. I have an Artista 200 with those expensive bobbins; but fortunately, I have lots of them. I just need to fill more before I start.

You have found the secret to NOT having crooked sewing!!!! You are a genius!!!!! It is the TREAD that gets in the way! Thank you so much..... now where do we go with this from here???? Oh, I don't mean to be sarcastic! I'm trying to be funny.

Nevertheless, if you can answer that question, patent it. I make so many crooked seams I've decided that it gives a looser, more comfy look to the quilt. And since I'm already old and have been sewing for years and quilting for the last 12 I'm probably not going to get any better. So I like my solution just fine (sorta out of necessity).

The low bobbin indicator in my machine wasn't working and I didn't notice for a while, so I understand what you are saying.

IF you're not adverse to using a finer thread, sometimes I'll use So Fine 60wt. in the bobbin and it seems to work fine. Then again, there are "those days" when the babies want life their way or the highway...sigh,,,so I have to give in and feed them what they want or they won't play! Good luck finding an answer...:)

aren't they suppose to run out in the middle of a seam? i guess i just took it for granted as they always do this

Boy this has happened to me so many times on a LONG seam when joining parts of a quilt, and all of a sudden Iam at the end and all the pins are removed and its not sewn together!!!!

Mine ran out the other day an inch from the end. I had a sewing student here at the time, (she is so advanced I can sew while she sews) and I let out an "Oh no." Good opportunity to teach her to be more careful of that.

LOL, BTDT (been there, done that!) My Janome will tell me if I'm out of thread or if it is broke, but the bobbin is always hid way underneath a big bulky project when it decides to run out. Sometimes I'll put a new, full one in just to make sure that doesn't happen. Then I noticed how much more mileage I can get out of that almost empty bobbin! I've often wondered why someone doesn't invent a machine where you use an actual thread spool to feed through.

eighter the bobbin run out or like the other day everything was going great looked great on top just to find after you get off the machine to find all nest underneath. ugh! Rippity Rip Rip for a whole day.
