I went to my guild meeting tonight and they were hosting Scott Hansen -bluenickelstudios.com (no affiliation) I was so excited. 1) I had brought my quilt in my avatar in to see if I could get some help with the borders. The ladies that helped me were so nice I just love how they took over and told me what I needed to use :) They helped so much and I cannot wait to finish it!! One lady bless her heart coud not get her head around why I would use 2 different sizes of fabric for the logs she was so cute (she made me laugh because she was speaking before thinking and it did not bother me:) They even asked me to show it tonight it was not in my plan but I did it anyways. I was not ready because here is a person there that I have admired his work for a while now and he was going to see my little quilt. Well as soon as I showed the quilt there was the oohs and ahhs but the one thing that made me so happy. HE told me he loved my quilt and the colors I used!! HE LOVED MY QUILT!! Well I happy danced myself to my chair. Then he started showing his quilts they were amazing to see the quilts in person was soo cool!! The last quilt he showed was MY personal inspiration for my next quilt I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES!!! It was so awesome!! When he was done I went to talk to him I wanted to see if I could look at the quilt, well not only was I allowed to see it again I got to TOUCH it!! I touched a quilt that was in a magazine!!!!! I told him all about what I was going to do with the fabric I bought he said he would love it if I would post the picture on his blog AND HE would make sure that Laura Gunn (the fabric designer) Saw my quilt CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!! Ok yes I am such a dork I admit it I am a sucker for a celebrity!!!
His quilts have been in Quilters World, Quiltmaker and quilters newsletter. he also worked with country threads (I am not affiliated with anyof them) |

Happy for you Faten |
no you are not dead and in quilters heaven. LOL I'd be the same way. Years ago I saw john Denver at a distance when he changed planes in Indy..just knew I was in heaven then LOL. Bet you never part with your quilt!!!!!!!!
I would have been starstruck too. Your quilt is beautiful, and I love Laura Gunn fabrics too.
What a great day. |
A memorable day for you! Congrats.
i am so happy for you.
Oh JAde!
I am so happy for you! |
Congratulations. I wish I was there. Thanks for sharing with us.
That's awesome! I'd be in quilter heaven too :D
wow, I can really understand your excitement. That teaches a lesson - we are good who ever we are. So, next time you are being modest about one of your quilts, remember who admired it.
I think we should remember we are all great fabric artists and like mainstream art - not all of the people are going to like it, but then there are people who will want to die because they can't have it! Congratulations on being a great quilter |
So happy for you! Last year at Paducah I got to talk with Eleanor Burns.
That is awesome! Could you post a bigger picture of your avatar? Would love to see it closer!
Way to go Jade! I'm happy for you. It's difficult sometimes to show my work to others because I want to point out every mistake when in reality they would never notice. I've gotten much better about it.
I kind of felt that was when I met Nancy Zieman.
Oooh, good for you! How cool is that!
Last year a friend and I went to the Sauder Village show in Ohio. At supper, Sharon Schamber was sitting alone at the table next to us! We didn't disturb her - she looked like she was enjoying the peace and quiet AND I had no idea what to say! I had recently become familiar with her stunning work and I felt anything I had to say would have been stupid - lol. I also met Nancy Z in Paducah in 2005, briefly, and also John Flynn - I tried (and bought!) his Flynn frame. |
Thats so neat!
That is so cool! You go girl. I have enjoyed seeing what you have shown. You have a great eye for color and that is half the battle in award winning quilts.
How fun and exciting for you :D:D:D
Wow, lucky you. A moment in time that you'll never forget.
Jade you made my day. I giggled, laughed and then realized how really sweet you are. I am so glad you went and had a wonderful experience.
I am so very pleased that you had such a wonderful experience. From this you have now encouraged so many other quilters out there with your story. Fantastic ;-)
I know exactly how you feel. I went to a guild meeting just before the Quilt Festival here in Texas. At our show-and-tell, Sue Garmin, who is a member, showed us the quilt she had designed for the Alex Anderson/Ricky Tims BOM program. It was to hang at their booth at the festival so she was frantically trying to finish it. I went to the festival and there it was. She is my idol. Such a great person and quilter/designer. Love, love, love her work. I was so excited just being around her.
What a great honor. Congratulations Jade.
Isn't it fun when you get to meet someone like that. I got to meet Mark Lipinski and boy was that ever a treat. The guy just threw his quilts everywhere and he was just a common as could be. Loved his program and the meet and greet.
So cool! I am counting down the days until Jinny Beyer wil be near me. I know I'll probably be asked to work that day, but yhis is one designer I don't want to miss. Chatuaqua institute in NY Oct 2011 if anyone is near.
I'm so happy for you!!! You had such a wonderful experience! Yippee!!!

Quiltforrme, Can you post a picture of the quilt pattern that you plan to make? It's always nice to see the quilts in person. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Eiltcoq.

Good for you, Jade. I got excited just reading your post (LOL)! It is indeed inspiring on the rare occasion we get to meet someone who inspires us. Sounds like he's an all-around nice person, too.
