I am trying to gather together patterns of all things someone may need when going to the hospital, etc.

I have the Anti Ouch Pouch from Nancy's Notions (someone pointed that out recently - thank you),

a turban, a beret and a fleece hat,

adult size and child size hospital gowns,

a couple different pajama pants,

but I would like that little half robe thing that used to be so popular, but now don't seem to exist, and I can't remember the name of it to do a search. It is just a little robe that ends at the waist, so you can have a little something over you while lying in the hospital bed, but it is not bulky, so you don't get tangled in it.

I know I could just use a robe pattern, and cut it off, but am sure there must be a pattern somewhere, for whatever this is called.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

I think it's called a bed jacket. I googled that but only came up with knitted bed jacket patterns.

Bed jacket....if you can find a button front jacket pattern, that fits kinda loose, I think that would work.

Wild ginger has an interesting program you can download to print out patterns. I used it a few times to print out some chemo hat patterns.

I remember bed jackets. Last time I wore one was when I had my first child, that was 55 years ago! It was soft and frilly and wore it over my nightgown so I was 'presentable' for getting out of bed, doctor's exams and visitors.

Nowadays I tend to wear old sweats or knits as my pj's, so convienent and I'm able to go out doors if necessary say to throw out the trash or get the mail.

I hope this is general information and not for people you know - wish them the best. Have learned that at least in my area that hospitals don't like home-brought goods unless patient is convalescent.

Yep I remember my mother having a couple of bed jackets. Isn't it strange they went out of style. Would be perfect for being in a hospital bed over your gown for seeing visitors.

Funny, I was remembering a fancy name. I did find several knit or crochet free patterns, but no sewing patterns.

I did find some other groups talking about it, and they used sweatshirt jackets (which I had thought of, so moved those files to my "hospital" file).

I found lots of pretty pics, so copied those as inspiration.

Right now, I am just trying to get all the items I can think of together in one place.

I did make the hospital gown from http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/hospitalgown.php for a friend a few years ago. She is a large woman, who was not comfortable in the hospital gowns available. The pattern was easy to adapt to her size, I first made one out of an old sheet, so I could be sure it fit properly. I also added a bit of extra on the back flap, so there was plenty to prevent hallway flashing! My aunt had sent me some embroidery bits, and I put those on the chest pocket to make it a little prettier. We bought some really pretty floral fabrics in her favorite colors. My daughter helped me sew, and we made her 2 gowns, with an extra fleece layer in the front top so that it also provided a little coverage (I called it a modesty sheild, thin cotton can be pretty revealing). She loved them so much that for years she wore it to her doctor appointments after her hospital stay too. This is a really great pattern, because it allows all those tubes and wires to go through the pocket on the chest, so that the gown doesn't have to be hanging open, showing all you got! It has snaps on the shoulder seams, so it is easy for the doctor to open up either front or back, just one side, easily and still maintain some modesty for the lady.

I think if it was a quilter that the bed jacket is for, it would be fun to do a small block on the pocket.

Also, I would make each piece (bed jacket, gown, pants) have the same color scheme, with a bit of fabric running through all pieces, so it would be easy to mix and match. For example, do pink & brown. Some pieces would have pink & brown stripes mainly, with a bit of trim or a pocket made from the other fabrics. While another piece may have a preally pretty pink and brown paisley and just be bound in the stripe. But becuase they coordinate, either pair of pants would go with either gown and the jacket would match all by being a patchwork of all the fabrics.

Also, maybe make a small patchwork tote bag for hand sewn projects, magazines, etc.
