Thank you Sharon- I have never seen coasters like that before. I liked them so much I gave it a try.

what is a squishy?

crkathleen 07-21-2009 05:42 PM

A squishy is a padded envelope with wonderful things inside! Like fabric or blocks! They are VERY fun to get!
You get giddy like a school girl opening them up!

Great gift, imjust me!

You are welcome, Patty! Don't you love getting a good surprise in the mail?!!

Bevanger 07-22-2009 05:59 AM

Squishy's are the best gifts ever. I call the Sender an angel as i appreciate their gift....

Is there a "Squishy" protocol? Do people just send them to whoever or are they pretty much something you send when someone has asked for a specific item or piece of fabric or ?? I have sent them to different folks who have asked for things that I can provide...i.e. pieces of fabric selvages or flannel scraps for quilts but from the sounds of this thread there might be other times that a person would send a squishy that doesnt' contain a specifically requested item. That would be fun...kinda like "pay it forward."

squishys are just fun things, it can be something someone has mentioned needing or a complete surprise. The call is yours and the mood you are in at the time. It can be an exchange between 2 people or... a send to a person and that person pays it forward to someone else. If you are wanting one back in exchange make that clear up front. They are just fun things to get instead of bills all the time. What you put in a surprise one is totally your call.
Just have fun with it :D

I agree with Sharon M. I like to kind of pick up on someone's "mood" and make their day brighter.

I love to send squishys and brighten someone's day. I just ask they "pay it forward" and just enjoy! (And paying it foward doesn't mean sending on a squishy, it could mean just saying you care about someone- just be nice to a fellow human is good enough for me)

alaskasunshine 07-22-2009 09:48 AM

how do you get a squishy? Now that I know what they are?

littlehud 07-26-2009 09:46 PM

I love getting a squishy. My kids have to watch me open mine. They get a kick out of how excited I get.

Try using 8 1/2 inch squares and insulbrite for the inside. Walla..... Wonderful hot pads.....

AtHomeSewing 07-28-2009 06:18 AM

Ok, I have to ask the obvious...how can this be a surprise? How do you get an address for a recipient without letting them know what you are up to?

Thanks for any insight. :)

Yes, I agree with Barb....she's one that will send something out to someone without them expecting it. Right? ;)

As to getting someone's address without the reciever knowing it....well? That's kinda tricky at times. There are some of us that have ALOT of addresses. I, for one, when I recieve a package, I TRY to keep the address of the person who sent it to me. I keep them in my address book. I have a section that is just for the message board people.

Iluv2quilt 07-28-2009 08:23 AM

I would love to send out squishies, how much fun! I'll have to be kinda sneaky about addresses tho. I really like to cheer people up and make their day special.

Barbm 07-28-2009 08:24 AM

That's me, I figure I will never be rich or famous or good looking, so I'll be kind to others. (Have to make up for my "when murder is legal" list I have in my head- that evil Barb makes me keep it)

I save addresses too. List name and then real name. Never know when you may need it.

P.S. I just remember what it was like when I was starting over after a divorce and small kids- I am forever grateful to my sister and girlfriend who stood by me and listened to me cry over poor decisions I made. But I picked myself up by the boot straps, kicked myself in the butt and said get over it and get on with your life. And so now I have it it comfy, not rich, but comfy enough where I can pass it forward. Learned not to be shy and depend on a man for your life's existence- stupid me- I was never meant to be June Cleaver, my idol. I am more like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind.
