I have to ask.........what are you working on?

For me, it's a new winter quilt for our room. Am using a Thimbleberries pattern called "Up North". It has bright stars and pine trees. Am doing it in warm reds, deep blues and greens with some plaids thrown in to give it the rustic/lodge-like look I'm trying to go for. Also trying to keep it scrappy which is very hard for me to do. Controlled scrappy isn't a strong enough term!!! Never realized I had such control issues when it comes to fabric until I started this project.

Your turn, we want details!

Let's see....I have a snowman applique quilt top about half finished, the binding partially on baby grand daughter's quilt, and most of the blocks made for a raggy quilt for our sofa. Isn't it obvious that I must have adult ADD?!!

I am making my Pomeranian a Christmas patchwork coat. I have almost all of my quilty Christmas gifts done so I decided to play around today!

mrsponcho1 12-01-2012 08:10 PM

I am hand quilting a bed size quilt for my ds and ddil. This top was hand pieced by my grandmother. I would really like to finish by Christmas.

I'm working on Trail Mix, a NYB, Bonnie Hunters' 'Easy Street', a Row Robin and a Batik block swap. I also participate in a monthly Secret Pal swap, a FQ swap, and a monthly block swap, all from this board. Plus I'm the BOM chair for my guild so I plan, write the instructions and make a display block each month. I ended up pushing a few other projects wwaaaaayyy back on my to-do list.

I'm making some small scrappy patchwork items. Here is a coffee cozy I finished a couple of days ago. Need to finish some binding on a couple of pot holders.

I am working on doll clothes for a special small girl who only wants a baby dolly and lots of clothes for Christmas and double layer fleece mitts for family members and friends and to put in the Christmas Community Hampers for families in need. I'm also making a scrap flannel red, blue and white kid's quilt to practice my FM quilting on before I attempt something larger. I always like to have several projects on the go so that I can switch back and forth.

I am trying to complete quilts for my nieces for Christmas. I am very slow so it will probably come down to the wire!

MimiBug123 12-01-2012 09:08 PM

Alas, nothing. i fell and broke my ankle and wrist, so my plans have been interrupted!

Pat625 12-01-2012 09:10 PM

I have 9 quilted stockings done by tomorrow for a senior citizen program my daughter is involved in through work..She and other employees made lots of little crafts for the seniors.

It is December 1st and I am done with my Christmas sewing!!! Finished the last placemat tonight! Have gone over my list about a dozen times and yep! it's done! LOL Can't believe it! So the rest of this month I can play, work on UFO's, start something new, whatever I want. But first I must clean up my sewing room, it looks like a bomb went off in there LOL It's so bad I don't think even the dust bunnies want to chance it! Hope it rains tomorow, won't feel guilty about playing with fabric, picking up pins, cleaning machines, rearanging cabnets, ect.

Binding a quilt I have been working on for a while for my son. It is a Miami Dolpine theme. Has been quite a challange for me as I am not very fond of the colors but is really has turned out OK. Still have a lot of projects left for Christmas so will be happy just sewing away!!!!!!

I'm working on the final month of a 6-month BOM, Vintage Rouge by Vickie Bellino of Bloom Creek by Marcus. I'm nearly finished with the English paper-pieced flowers, then have to piece the backgrounds for the applique border, do the applique and then put the whole top together. This may take longer than a month!

I have finished three ohio star christmas tree skirts, a santa door hanging, a snowman table topper and snowflake placemats and delivered two of the skirts, door hanging and table runner and placemats to my sisters for Christmas gifts. I am now working on the "Therapy in Session" as a wall hanging, quilting it and putting the strips on it for hanging. Would love to see other folks who have done this panel and how they turned out. I did mine with 1 1/2 inch strips cut 6" square and turned horizontal and vertical. After that is done I think I'll be getting the house in shape for Christmas.

I know exactly what you mean!! I'm binding a quilt for a little boy that has a Cars theme. It's cute, but the fabrics are dark and busy and the quilting doesn't show up as well as i would have though. I like the quilting to show!! LOL!!! BUT - the little boy will think it's really cool on Christmas morning when he opens it up! (and that is the main thing)

maminstl 12-02-2012 05:29 AM

I am working on a quilt for my sister. I started with a baby quilt, then did a lap size, now this one is my biggest yet - a twin size. It is primarily grey, yellow and white with a few bicycle prints. She will be very surprised, as I have not told her that I am sewing again, or that I've taken up quilts. Think I'll keep it a secret until she opens it up. Fun!

luana 12-02-2012 05:46 AM

I've started a table runner for January. I selected a red color for the child's hat and mittens. It looks like Santa Claus. I must have been thinking "Christmas". I think I will start again.

Jackie Spencer 12-02-2012 06:04 AM

I have to get the binding on 3 lap quilts, and a large Deer wall hanging before the 22nd. Iam machine quilting a lap quilt for a nursing home that has to be there by the 18th, and I still have to make a twin size rag quilt, flannel, before the 25th. Guess I should get off of here and head for my sewing room huh!!

QuiltingVagabond 12-02-2012 06:10 AM

I have a twister baby quilt ready to machine quilt, just waiting for a day off to do that. I have an idea to make a small quilt to hang over the fireplace opening at my DD house to stop the draft coming down the chimney. I can put magnets in the corners to stick to the metal insert.

Sunnye 12-02-2012 06:46 AM

Just finished a coffee cup quilt that has been in the works for several years!

Also, am finishing a wall hanging for my eye doctor (wish I could post pictures). It's a before and after eyes design; the before is a deconstruction using Carol Ann Waugh's, Stitch & Slash method and the after (construction) uses Rose Hughes applique in a new way method.

JulieR 12-02-2012 06:46 AM

I'm finishing up three charity quilts (all in various states), and then I need to get back to the wallhangings (4) and kids' quilts (2) for Christmas.

Dang. I really ought to log off, huh.

Intrepid Niddering 12-02-2012 02:31 PM

I'm currently working on my first quilt. It's just a bunch of charm squares in a radiating diamond shape. Right now I'm just piecing the top together, trying to figure everything out along the way. (I don't know anyone who quilts, so I've been teaching myself through reading the forums here and watching YouTube videos.)

gramajo 12-02-2012 03:03 PM

I'm doing great for me. I'm usually frantically trying to finish everything up 3 days before Christmas. 3 lap quilts, a wallhanging, and a pair of pillowcases are done. Still have to finish up a Santa placemat for grand niece, another pair of pillowcases amd a table topper. Then I'm done. I also have all my shopping, except for a few stocking stuffers, done. Yay for me this year!

shortcake2012 12-02-2012 03:10 PM

I am new to this site and a new quilter (August of this year). I am wondering if anyone knows how I could incorporate a picture of my grandchildren into a quilt. If so, so you have an idea for the quilt itself...have you made one before using pictures. I have used inkjet printable fabric for labels but they seem a little thin for the center of a quilt. Thank you, and i apologize if this isn't where I was supposed to post my question. Have a good day!

Furball 12-02-2012 03:33 PM

I'm just barely beginning on Christmas. i work best on a deadline. Finished an eye spy top (charity) this morning and then started on a rag quilt for SIL. Got 8 of 48 squares fmq'ed. Washed fabric for Christmas placemats and napkins.

quilts4charity 12-02-2012 04:11 PM

Finished up my Christmas embroidery projects today, still have 1 quilt top to finish and 7 to quilt and bind, most are just twin size so I should get it all done!!!!

I want to make pillows for the local animal shelter, but having trouble sewing through layers of plush fleece. The material is so soft and I thought the animals would love it.

I'm working on a jar quilt and am getting carried away. It was intended to be very simple with 12" blocks, and I did pears and oranges and apples, but then I found olives and onions and green bean fabric, so I branched out. Then for some reason I decided to add a 3-dimensional basket of onions and I've spent the day stuffing onions at my dining table. That lead me to think about adding real stuffed onions to our christmas dinner menu. Apparently I'm easily distracted.

Yesterday the 1st, I sewed the rest of the binding onto another Illusion quilt and cut strips for another quillt . Today I sewed a few blocks together. The sizes are not right, so I will change to a different quilt pattern. Made up by me.

Working on a baby quilt for a 6 week premature baby. Hoping to finish all the applique' within the next day or so, then on to cutting the crazy patches for the quilt portion and getting them sewn on to the foundation. From there all the embroidery needs to be done and then I can sandwich the quilt and hand quilt it. Hoping to have this all done by the 21st, the last day of work before winter vacation since it is for our mechanic.

I am working on an appliqued and lightly quilted cushion for my Mother's bed (hopefully it will be her Christmas present)...also have to piece a back and finish a string quilt for my future DIL, and need to cover some coat-hangers as part of my Sister's Christmas gift.....must get organised and wash and fold several bags of recently gifted/bought fabric....the list is long...as usual.

GrannieAnnie 12-02-2012 07:13 PM

By Dec. 6 (the Feast of St. Nicholas) I have to have two gingerbread men dresses done, one for my little GD and one for my almost GGD (almost a year old). And one green/red plaid dress. Got to send off a pinky purple Christmas stocking print dress to my step GGD in Ohio and some Christmas money to my other step GGD (money instead of dress-------she lives in the Bahamas). Finish up table topper for my "all but DIL" for St. Nicks. Deliver table topper and cute little church music box to my ex-MIL who's 98.

Several people are getting TASTEFULLY SIMPLE beer bread mixes for Christmas. Since I hate doing wrapping, I'm making shopping bags and casserole covers to "wrap" the bread mixes. I HATE WRAPPING PAPER.

Got a couple things to finish up for a silent auction Tuesday. And a dozen or so tissue covers for a gal that I helped make a quilt from her late father's shirts. (covers for her sisters!).

OH, and I want a sweat shirt jacket for myself. Got the yo-yos cut out but not stitched up.

and................................

I'm thrilled that others get distracted, too!

Some where along the way I need to get back into the pool at the gym. I need a chlorine fix!

And I need to do a few more Christmas mug rugs. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Minmom3 12-02-2012 07:56 PM

DD#2 wants her own Christmas quilt. It's various stars, in various Christmas fabric with non-Christmas coordinates. I'm on the second block (she knows it's not going to be ready by Christmas, that's not a problem). We've had 3 rain storms in a row blow through here, and between not sleeping much last night while waiting for a) the cats to settle down and b) something big to fall through my ceiling, and c) power being out for several hours today, I haven't gotten much done today. I am remembering just how much I hate marking itsy bitsy pieces of material so my stinking corners will line up the way they're supposed to! Probably my least fave part of quilting, but it's OH so necessary to do it to have the thing look good when it's done. I took a several year hiatus while I finished school, (late student, yippee!) and forgot so much of what I know about quilting.

I got a big block done yesterday (something of a medallion idea) that I had to first decide what grid it was based on and then draft, and while it looks OK, several of the corners are not lined up the way they're SUPPOSED to be. Aggravating. Not badly enough to rip it out again, but it was silly to do the biggest block first, wasn't it?! Dang....

Onward and upward! I've also wasted a bunch of time reading things here, and have discovered the rolling on boards method of basting. I'm SO going to do that for this when it's finished. Reading these boards may not be speeding my quilt blocks through my machine (which is having it's own issues), but it's sure interesting and educational!

I have so many projects waiting that I do not know where to start. Just finished a 10-minute runner for a party at the LQS; have fabric and pattern laid out for a bag for DIL; have fabrics for three large quilts; and have one in progress stored in the closet as it is applique and I have to be in just the right mood for that. I really do not need more projects/fabric; but, I went to the LQS Friday and bought more fabric... I am a fabricholic, I guess.
