I Have Chance To Buy a 20's Singer Machine
I have a chance to buy a Singer SM. The best I can remember how it was described is it is a 202 from the 1920's and it sewed the prettiest stitches of the Singers of that time period. It comes in a table or cabinet, has a wooden carrycase, and has all the accessories. The owner, who is in his 70's said it belonged to his Mother, who was a quilter. His asking price is $100.00 I get to see the machine next Tuesday. Is this a good deal? I kind of think it is but you ladies on here know way more about these things than I do so I need your help.
I have seen 2 other Singers both in either in 1. a cabinet/table for $300.00 and 2. a treadle for $350.00. These are way out of my price range. Your help ladies is greatly appreciated. Ladibug |
If the machine sews and does not have to much rust it's a steal. If there is a medallion on the back peak inside with a flashlight. If it does not have the medallion look underneath the machine. If those parts are very rusty the machine was probably kept in a damp place good luck. It is a good deal.

Take thread fabric and an extension cord and try it out. Also offer less even if you are willing to go full price. You may get an even better deal just for asking

Thanks for your advice about my problem. I have this posted 2 places as I didn't realize I posted in the wrong place to start with. As I said on the other post had it not been for the advice of you all I would be going into this not knowing what to do at all. Thanks to QB for providing this forum.

Look on ebay. You can't find a decent one for that price. If it sews fabric and isn't rusty and has all the parts, I'd say, go for it. I wouldn't talk a 70 year old down any more than $100. That's a fair price. He can probably use the money. He could probably get a lot more for it than that for just the machine alone. So, check it over and try it out and if it works, give him the $100 and grab it and go and be happy happy happy for the deal you just made!
