I happen to have bought this at the regular price when it first came out. It's a good resource for inspiration and for patterns. it's a standalone product. you don't need to buy anything else to use it. At the latest sale price, it's definitely a bargain! (and ... no ... they didn't pay me to say so. )

Thank you for the info. I have been buying this magazine, one of my favourites, for the last 10 years. This will be a great addition. Quilt designs never go out of fashion, do they?

Yes, it includes it. I downloaded it and it installs the magazine issues and block factory. All the blocks are there by issue and you can print templates, foundations, etc.

I was about to buy this collection, thinking how convenient to simply be able to download it! :) However, while deciding whether to order the CD or download I became a little bit concerned about the legality of selling (or even having on my computer) downloads of of this CD content, distributed electronically by a company other than Quilter's Newsletter.

The material is copyrighted. So, how would QN receive its just compensation for download-only sales made by another company? It seems unlikely to me that the seller would pay for a license to sell this content as downloads, even if such license was available, given their claim for the low price is to clear this product from their warehouse.

If by some possiblity downloads are being sold "by mistake" then owning them would not legal either.

Any thoughts on if this is okay, and if so, how?

Not an expert, but my understanding is that Quilt-Pro is an authorized distributor of this CD. I assume there is a legal agreement in place for the downloads as well as the CD sales.

Thank you for your response. By any chance do you have a source? I can't find any information about this on their website, or anywhere else.

I am curious as there are people I actually know who just went through a huge lawsuit regarding exactly the same thing: a company selling downloads of their copyrighted works over the net.

I would love to buy this and not wait, but I'm apprehensive about this issue. I wonder why QN isn't offering this product as a download from their own Store online.

Shemjo 07-03-2009 11:33 AM

Good question. :?

Prism99 07-03-2009 11:40 AM

According to this website, Quilt-Pro teamed up with QNM to develop the software:

http://www.softexpressions.com/software/cd/QNM.htm

"Quilt-Pro and Benartex teaming up with Quilter's Newsletter Magazine to bring you an interactive CD that offers 5 years of articles and projects on CD is just one signal of the maturation of computer quilting! "

I would assume QNM is savvy enough to not permit their partner to sell unauthorized copies of the software.

This CD might have sold well when it first came out, but it is "old" software now. QNM may not find enough profit margin in it to sell on their website, or they could have sold all their CD inventory and the right to sell downloads to Q-P.

What kind of downloaded software did your friends get in trouble for?

AtHomeSewing 07-03-2009 11:44 AM

Great, thanks again! :)

BellaBoo 07-03-2009 03:45 PM

I bought this set last year and it's pretty neat. Quilt Pro sells Foundation Factory and the QNN cd uses a version of it called Block Factory. I think QNN and Quilt Pro are owned by the same corporation. That's why the magazine has changed so much.

sandpat 07-03-2009 04:18 PM

I ordered the CD because my puter is on its last leg and I'm afraid I would lose it...probably not..but I'm not the world's greatest techie

butterflywing 07-07-2009 11:23 AM

kay susan, how much was the s + h on the cd?

they have a contact tab on the top of the page. i'm sure they would answer you if you flat-out asked. or you could contact QN to find out. they are both reputable, so i'm sure they can explain the arrangement if you asked them.

Hey Thanks! Have just ordered the CD. I used to have the Quilter's Newsletter mag on subscription, but I was running out of space to store them all. This solves that problem! The next trouble I guess will be where to start! Im also doing the Baltimore blocks by hand. So many quilts, so little time!!!

butterflywing 07-09-2009 09:42 AM

is anyone happens to be interested, this is NOT mac compatible.i called and asked. for windows only.

Thank you for sharing this. I placed my order today. It is going to be a real gem. All of you quilters are becoming dear friends and I am learning quite a lot about quilting and sharing. Will any of you be going to the Philadelphia Quilt show in Oaks, PA, September 17, 18, 19, 20, 2009? It is sponsored by the Mancuso Management. They have a website

Did you go to the website and actually try to buy it? I just went there and added it to my cart and it was still on sale. Worth a try. Looks like they haven't removed it from the website yet. Here is the link again:
