My DD's roommate got a sewing machine for a graduation present, but didn't really know the first thing about sewing. Her mother wanted to show her, but she was from NY state, so her mom was too far away. My DD, her roommate and I were shopping and found some really cute fabric at a local Walmart, and she made a comment about how she really wished that she knew how to use her new machine, so I told her I would help her. She came over 3 days this week, and I showed her how to thread her machine, wind the bobbin, and especially sew! We made 3 "Super 9-Patch" baby blankets. She got one all completed, including quilting, and will finish the rest of the quilting at home. It was a fun week and I felt good that I had helped her with this life skill.

Thats wonderful that her "away from home mom" could give her something she'll have forever.

How nice of you. This was a gift that will surely last a lifetime!

This is just wonderful to read! Not only do we have a new quilter, but a wonderful mentor as well. Bravo to you for teaching her!

That's great that she is learing from you. She is already doing very nice work.
I'm in the process of teaching my DD how to sew and she is picking it up very quickly. Love passing on the sewing knowledge. |
You should feel good about helping her..What a great person you are. If you felt so good about helping her, just think how good she must have felt. Everytime she sews she will think of the nice friend that helped her learn..

what a great thing to do for her. she looks so happy to know how to sew!

I can't wait for my granddaughter - 9 yrs - to show an interest in sewing. Her mother has never been the type to sew, knit or anything along those lines (very sports oriented). There has to be at least somebody to pass on all my quilting stuff. My girls call me "Martha" because I like to do lots of different crafty things.
I hope everyone who wants to learn to sew has a generous person like you to teach them! |
Newbie quilter!!!!! Yeahhhhhhh
|
Clap Clap Clap. It is always nice to help some one.

How wonderful of you to teach her. I made a baby quilt for my niece out of that material! She did good :)
