I am so excited I spent most of yesterday cutting out all my fabrics, itching to use my new sewing machine that dh bought me for christmas. I have never done any quilting before and my sewing skills are OKish, I can sew in a straight line.

After having a few probs with the automatic needle threader I practiced on a bit of scrap material and then I went for it. I have now done 2 blocks and all my seams line up which was the thing that I was worried about most. I think it had a lot to do with ironing before I stitched each strip together. I am so pleased with myself and needed to share LOL

Woohoo! The start of somethings beautiful..your quilt and quilting career. Btw, we love pics

marymm 12-28-2010 08:13 PM

Congratulations and good job. I've been sewing for ages and still have trouble with those straight lines...I(My husband has noted that I veer to one side when walking!) If you've already done two blocks, you may be hooked. Quilting is a great hobby.

Cybrarian 12-28-2010 08:13 PM

Yeah for you! Measure twice, press, cut & sew once! [You hope...] I'm also big on using starch, helps me-others may not agree, it's one of those you love it/you hate it things, but worth a try to see if it works for you. Proud of you!

Momofthree 12-28-2010 08:17 PM

Great start!! Keep going it will get more addictive and you will enjoy it. I have only completed one quilt and I have enjoyed it so much I have a list a mile long of quilts I want to make. You will find tons of help and encouragement here. The ladies here are great.

So cool! My seam ripper is my most used sewing tool! I hope it doesn't ever become yours... :)

lovequilts 12-28-2010 08:47 PM

I would suggest, if you don't have a 1/4 in seam foot I would invest in one. It has a "side" on the foot you butt your fabric up to and helps keeping your seams equal.

Can't wait to see your completed top. Please pst pics

suebee 12-28-2010 08:50 PM

Way to go! Congrats..

Thanks for all the comments, I am hooked LOL. Thought I would add some pics, this is my 1st quilt ever and prob the only 5th thing I have ever sewed in my life, so please be gentle. I made this design up myself on some graph paper and kept it real simple, I am going to hopefully separate the squares with white fabric and add a border or two to it. Well thats the plan!

plainjane 12-29-2010 10:10 AM

Looking GOOD!

sharon b 12-29-2010 10:14 AM
