So I wanted to make DH a wall size quilt for Christmas using this Rectangles Behind Bars pattern http://www.judysisneros.com/FloraFauna.htm (I was planning on make it a square with one of the "behind bars" thingies). I started on it, cut everything and sewed this strip set and about a quarter of the blocks, and then realized I'm lousy at sewing 1/4" seams (yes I have a 1/4" seam foot but sewing perfection is not something I'm good at). So now I need to either rip the seams out of every piece and re-sew them, or buy more fabric, cut everything again and re-sew...or just choose a simpler pattern (or plan D, just give up which sounds really tempting right at the moment)?

I was really hoping to get this quilt done by the end of the month and there's no way that's going to happen. I don't know how I'm going to find time to do this and the six million other Christmas gifts I need to make in the next two months (did I mention I have a 3 year old and an 11 month old??).

I like it,

though I would have left my fabric whole and just put the strips in the top and sewed them down, You could use some fusible web or something to keep them in place and then just top stitched them down. that way you also get an accuate look on what should be hidden behind the bars.

I don't think I have ever read that pig pen bars have to be spaced evenly.
I kind of like the random look! Looks like you planned it that way!
Keep going.
:D

I would take measurments of what you have and trim so it has square corners and add more or less bar pieces to get to the right size.

I love the pigs :D not in the bacon business are you...pigs look to happy

I like it just like that... the bars don't have to be symmetrical--it's pigs!! Make your won rules and proceed!! And congrats on taking this on with two wee ones at home. Wow. clap, clap, clap, clap!!

I would just continue on and after you are done with all the blocks then square them up to match in size. There are no Quilt Police here and therefor no "hard" rules

Gosh it's cute and it makes me smile. I hope you can see that too. I started quilting before my daughter was born but then stopped. I've only just started quilting again (my daughter is in college.) I wish I had kept it going instead of stopping. It's great to have a creative outlet.

i'm not sure what the problem is: did you want it to be square? did you want the spacing even? it looks fine. it's a pigpen, after all.

if you have any piggy faces left and the quilt really annoys you (it shouldn't), you could try cutting out a face and appliqueing it so it looks like it's trying to squeeze through the bars.

never give up. don't let those pigs win!!
