It's from a very old kit from Lee Wards. The applique pieces don't always cover the lines no matter how hard I try. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the blue lines pre-printed for the applique placement? If so, that will come out when you wash it when it's completed.

Yep, what she said.

This is a very old kit-40 years probably and the dyes were not like the ones today. I tried one on the edge lines just washing it and stain remover but it doesn't phase it

I have an idea that somewhere along the line you ironed the fabric. That may have set your markings permanently. If washing it with regular laundry stuff doesn't work you might try peroxide on a que tip. Be very careful sometimes those old quilt fabrics especialy kits fall apart.
good luck.

I wonder if hairspray might work. I know it does on ball point ink.
