Hi Lin:
If you look at the picture the triangle that goes on each side of the 4 patch is 6 inches by 9 3/4 inches. My friend gave me the pattern and this is how she showed me to do it. I suppose you could do the rectangles and do it your way but just make sure your measurements are 6 x 9 3/4 when you get ready to sew them to the 4 patch. JUST REMEMBER, each of those triangles are going a different direction and when I made this one I cut out EXTRA pieces ...(only God is perfect  ) And yes, you do leave the START triangle flapping on the first side of the 4 patch and then sew the seam the rest of the way at the end. Good luck and make sure to post pictures. My friend made this up in muted greens and forest greens and I cannot tell you how gorgeous it was. I wish I had had my camera that day so I had a picture. She made it for a donation of some kind so can't go back and shoot it. It's a gorgeous block made up.

Good luck! After looking at your "braid" quilt, you won't have any trouble with this.

Oh gosh, I'm sure glad I asked questions!! Thanks Feathers. I would have done it all wrong. For some reason I was reading that as a "9" and thought you cut that as a rectangle at 9x9 3/4 and then cut it on the diagonal. No, I will make a template the size that you say it is and use that! I'm sure that would be best. My math ain't so great! LOL I'd never be able to figure that out with a rectangle.

How did your friend put this together?...just block to block, or did she use a sashing inbetween? It might be interesting to put the blocks right next to each other and have an alternate look with the two triangles coming together. I'll have to make a couple of mock blocks and play with it. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Lin:
I think I remember that she put the light colored triangles next to the dark colored triangle when she put her quilt together. I tried to call her to see if she had ever put sashing between but she's probably at the hospital with her honey so I won't bother her. Make sure you take pictures !!!! :-o :)

The block you have pictured is on Quilter's Cache called Arabic Lattice.

This is a 6 inch block but I'm sure you can adapt it. It's a fun block to make.

Thanks Feathers! That's the way it shows it put together on the link that Yvonne provided. It looks real pretty that way.

And thank you for the link Yvonne. It was great to see how it looks all put together! This will definitely be the one that I make for my SIL. :)

Thanks, your instructions are good. What a great block.
I made it an 8 1/2 inch block. 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 triangle. Worked perfect.

Oh! good, I'm glad you were able to make the block the size you wanted. I do think it's a pretty neat block and is sooooooo easy. Post a picture of your block...we want to see it! :D
