I have heard the term but, I do not know how to do it. I know you ladies talk about it and I know someone on here could tell me. I would appreciate it if someone could help me. Daughter bought me a quilt kit for Christmas and they tell me to make several fussy cuts, they don't tell me how to do it. Thanks for helping me.

A Fussy cut is simply positing the template so that a certain portion of the design is smack in the middle of the shape. so if you are using Santa Fabric you cut your square (for example) so that Santa's smiling face is right in the middle.

Thank you so much. I have done this before - for a picture quilt. I had no idea it was the same thing, someone changed the term on me. Thank you so much Kwhite

Oh no problem. So many things in quilting are known by a ton of names. It is hard to keep things straight.

If you need to be really particular with a fussy cut, this method is a little bit longer but worth the effort.

Take a piece of paper and cut out the size square you need (say 5 inches). Cut carefully and remove the square in one piece so you have a "window" in your paper. Use the window to position over you fabric until you have the design visible that you want. Put the cut out square back into the hole, press your finger on it, and remove the outside paper leaving just the 5" square on the fabric to cut around. :-)

I am posting two pictures of examples of how I fussy cut. I make a template that is clear, so I can lay it over the print I want to cut for my project. It generally always works for me!!
It's fairly easy & you will love the results. Good Luck!!
