Do you have one you really like? What do you like or dislike about the one you have?

Have been using my Rowenta now for 6 six years, and LOVE it. However, I've read negative comments about them on this board.

I've had a Rowenta for several years. The only complaint I have is that it leaks water at times. Not sure if it is the way I add water to the iron. I never know whether to put it in with the iron cool or hot.

I have been using my Rowenta for over 15 yrs. & it still works great. I only put distilled water in it.

I have gone at least through 3 irons a year?? Have no clue as to why, but its a pain in the butt!!!

Savers is a great place to buy irons and they have a testing station for electronics.
I bought a Rowenta for $5.50

I have not been happy with Rowenta and just recently bought a Reliable iron (the orange one). I haven't tried it yet but the people in my quilt group rave about how wonderful it is. It's expensive -- around $100 and takes distilled water.

I really like the Shark. It heats up very quickly and doesn't leak. Can give powerful bursts of steam when needed. There are two models I believe. I bought the one that is in the $35 price range. Have seen them at Sears and at Target.


(Have been quilting for 7 years, and average one iron every 2.5 years, so I'm on my third Shark).

I love my Oliso I have the blue one. 2 years and no problems. I use distilled water because I live in Florida and even filtered tap water can give irons problems.

I but the cheapo from Walmart - I can't even break them - I have the same one year after year. I finally bought a new one because mine was so old - another cheapo and no problems at all.

I just bought a Black & Decker "Classic" from Target. Good price and great iron! I wanted something with a good weight to it for better pressing than the light-weight iron I use for traveling.

i go for the cheap ($10 or less) irons- the one i'm using now i paid $2 for at a thrift store 4 years ago---it is working great.
i have an expensive iron still in it's box on a shelf---been there for--geez i guess 7 years now- when i bought it i actually bought 2 because of a sale-
used the first one--these irons cost over $130 each-
within a couple weeks it was leaking-sputtering all the time- and i simply hated it- i think after about 3 months i tossed it- the other one hangs out on the closet shelf- i guess as a back up if the one i use craps out i will have one to use until i can get to a store to buy a good $10 one again.
and since the (fiasco) with the first- fancy-costly one I do not put water in my irons any more- i keep a spray bottle of water on the end of the ironing board- if i need a bit of steam i simply spritz with the bottle- seems to me every iron- regardless of cost- leaks, sputters, and drips when water is added. i hate being burned by sputtering irons.

It's Rowenta for me and I have had good luck with them.

Irons are such a mystery to me. I've bought the high end and had them leak like a sieve. I've bought cheap ones and had them work great but I go through them like crazy. I've yet to find a brand that will fit the bill. No leaks great steam and weight. I like a heavy iron. I find one with great steam but no substance..No leaks but wimpy steam and no weight. I used a Oliso at a quilt show class and it was nice but I didn't use it enough to figure out if it would work for me. And I'm worried about spending that much money on an iron that may not be for me....I have found though that since I have a better ironing board and am not dropping them as often that the problem with leaking may be me and not the iron...imagine that. =)

I just bought one because my friend has had one for 4 years and she just replaced her's. I love it.

After a lot of research, I purchased a T-Fal iron over a year ago for my sewing room. Kmart and JC Penneys carry them for $40-$50. The newer Rowenta and Oliso had poor reviews, lasting only 1-2 years for many of people, which I thought were ridiculous for the money. I like the steam on my T-Fal and it gets hot very quickly. I liked it so much that I purchased one for our household ironing too.

I had my Oliso for 4 years and loved it. I let my church group use it during a quilting event, it got dropped and it broke the electronics on it. I am going to buy nother one but am using a garage sale special $1 iron for now.

I'm on my 3rd iron this year. I can't find one that doesn't leak. I've had Rowenta & B&D. UGH!!

I bought one of the Euro-Steam irons and it is a disaster!! Makes great bursts of steam but you then have to wait up to 5 minutes for it to build up the steam again. I don't have that kind of patience. It was a waste of good money.

I use a Black and Decker and it does fine but it has an automatic shut off that drives me crazy.

Just too picky I guess. Haven't found one I really like yet.

I have a dry iron that I love. Have used it for the last 6 years with no problems.

I have a Rowenta that must be 15 years old that is still going strong, even after a couple of unscheduled trips down to the cement basement floor. Dh "bandaged" it years ago with heat-resistant glue and duct tape; still works great!

Mine is the type that does not have a removable water tank. I've heard that the removable tank Rowentas leak.

I like the fact that mine has an auto shutoff, but many people don't like that feature. In fact, I found an almost-new iron just like mine for $5 at a thrift shop -- probably donated by a quilter who didn't like the auto shutoff. It's my backup Rowenta now, in case my original ever bites the dust permanently.

I find the cheap ones work as well as the more expensive ones. Check at Tuesday Morning or even Lowes or Home Depot, without steam they all seem to be the same

I have a General Electric iron and what i love about it...is that it has a retractable cord when not using it...easier to store!! :thumbup:

I now buy the cheapest I can find. For me it heats up & presses just as well and my Rowenta did.

I've just ordered a Rowenta from JoAnn's. It was on sale and it had good reviews. It's not quite a full size one but also not a mini-one. Guess you would say medium sized. As I recall the retail price was $79 and got it for $30 something...like maybe $39...can' remember exact amount.

I have been using the Rowenta travel iron for years. I am actually on my second one as I wore the other one out. I bought it at JoAnn's with a coupon.

Where is Savers? Do they sell online?

I like my purple and white Proctor Silex. It's wasn't too expensive, shuts off if I don't use it for about 10 minutes, reheats very quickly again, is lightweight.

I have given up on Rowentas. I bit the bullet andinvested in a Reliable Velocity 100. I love that it has a built in steam generator and the auto shut off can be bypassed. $139.00

That's where I buy mine too. I don't use steam only starch. My cheapo iron is still going strong :D

Posted on June 29th that I purchased a Steam generator for $44.00 through Heartland America.com. It is an overstock magazine. No Shipping charge. So far I love it.
It is a Euroflex, made in Italy. Hope you take a look. For the price, you can't beat it, considering others cost up to $200.. It smooths fabric very nice and can be use as a dry or steam iron. Hope this helps.

EDIT: I also own a Reliabe and love it to. I gave up on rowentas also.

I also have a "Petite Press" by Prym that works pretty well.

Savers is a chain of thrift stores that works in concert with various organizations. There are a couple here in Las Vegas. I imagine they have a website.

Phillips Azure.It has an anti calc button to clean the gunk out.

and LOVE it!! No more cords tagling up in my quilt tops!

I like my $25 Sunbeam that I bought at WalMart. I had a Rowenta and hated it...it leaked like a sieve for absolutely no reason---usually all over whatever I had on the ironing board. My sunbeam is a dream and never gives me a moment's trouble!

I have stopped buying small appliances at Wallyworld. I now buy all small electric appliances at my local Ace Hdw.
It is worth the extra 5 or 10 to get the real deal and I have to drive 26 miles to the nearest Wally world anyway.

I have a new Shark and am totally loving it. My Rowenta keep smelling like something was burning and leaked a lot. The shark heats up fast, flashes if it is left plugged in and has easy controls for heat and steam. It gives you a lot of choices.
It does turn off a little to fast. But,it really does heat back up in seconds.
