I need tonals, where to buy?? and where is monkey quilt
 

I cant find the thread from the monkey quilt posted last week!? Even my posts to that thread are not listeted in my history.......

It was the quilt Monkey business published in the quilters world August 2011. It looked so great I WANT one too.

My problem: where do I find tonals online. The mentioned mixmaster collection by Robert Kaufman in not available as the pattern is asking for 5 different tonals per color.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I googled the pattern - and several popped up with that name so I am not sure what the pattern looks like. That being said if you can not find the tonals have you considered Kono Solids? They come in many variations and shades of color.

Try Bear Essentials from P&B Textiles. They have 5 values in most hues.
Also consider hand dyes and ombres where you can get multiple shades on the same yardage. Shade Cascade by Karen Combs for Blank Fabrics is a good example.

Coincidently, I needed some fabric from the Robert Kaufman Mixmasters line this week & found it online at Beverly's.

Fabric.com often has the fabrics not available elsewhere.

You can use any of the fabric search engines to find pretty much anything you're looking for online. Search for a specific line or a general description.

Thank you all so much. I was looking through the links but I still have the same problem: I need lets say five different basic prints in brown, but almost the same brown.
If I search the sites for basic brown I get 10 to 15 fabrics of complete different value!?

If you have to be that particular to get the right shade of brown, you're better off shopping for the fabric locally, where you can actually see it. The biggest problem with shopping for fabric online is you have no way of knowing how true the colors in the pictures are. Your monitor may not be calibrated correctly, and the fabric thumbnails are sometimes photographed in weird lighting. I once purchased what looked like a soft, sage green fabric, only to find when it arrived that it was bright apple green.

There is one place I can think of that *might* work for you - Cherrywood fabrics. They are hand-dyed and come in color gradations. Maybe this would work for you: http://www.cherrywoodfabrics.com/L_Image.asp?image=904

Have you tried equilter.com? They have a search feature that lets you pull up every fabric that has whatever color you select no matter if it is the main color or an accent color in the fabric, but the colors MATCH! Then you can select however many fabrics you choose and put them on a page and compare them to each other, mix, match,add, delete. etc. until you get the exact fabrics you want. Their service can't be beat. You can start by putting tonal in the search if you want.

I made a selection of 24 yards at thousand of bolts..............didnt place the order yet. lol. They also have that colormatcher.
Buying that amount of fabric at a LQS in Switzerland would add up to approximately 500$!? so not really an alternative. With the prices at thousand of bolts I can handle it if some fabric dont fit for the project and have to "wait" in my stash for something else.
